"Wednesday" I have a question for those sleuths out there, I hope you're able to help out...
I remember reading about a test pressing of 'Purple Rain', the album, that included this track, supposedly a ballad meant for Jill Jones to sing at one key point during the film.Whether Jill ever recorded a version of this track is not known, nor do I know if it was Prince's own version of "Wednesday" that ended up on the test pressing. I also remember reading a particular commentary on the lyrics to "Wednesday", which includes the line: "If you're not here by Wednesday..." Interestingly, whilst listening to the piano sessions from 1982 last night, I noticed that a track tentatively titled "There's No Telling What I Might Do" actually features the following lyric: "If you're not here by Wednesday... there's no telling what I might do" Could this meandering piano ballad finally be identified as an early version of "Wednesday"? . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."

Seems like the version of "Wednesday" on the test pressing was Jill's, since it says she was supposed to sing it in the movie...

Cheers for the link. Indeed, it looks like the version of "Wednesday" on that test pressing could be Jill's. I wonder if that ballad from the piano sessions is the work-in-progress for "Wednesday", though... . "You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person."
