I was wondering, as the song "It's gonna be a beautiful night", from the "Sign O The Times" album is a live recording with some overdubs - is there a excisting or ciculating studio recording?
Anyone out there with all the Prince bibles at hand can reply with some info on this?
We all know that for instance the song "Days of wild" is only being officially released as a live recording on the 3CD "C.B." set, but there's also the studio recording which heavily ciculated for some time..
Same question concerning most of the 'mobiletruckrecorded' tracks that were used as basic tracks for most of the half of "Purple Rain" as we know it. For instance, is there any studio recording excisting of the actual "Purple Rain track? The same goes for "Baby I'm A Star", etc.?

Now one more complete different question : in the movie "Under The Cherry Moon" u can hear Kristin Scott Thomas play the drums while she chants with here birtdayparty guests the line "Planet Rock, you just can't stop..." or something like that. This is unmistakenly incidental music done by Prince himself, but is it a distilation of a complete track like "(I wanna be a)Modernaire" was in the movie "Purple Rain" (done by Dez Dickerson and the Modernaires - Did he had an album release at the time?...)?

The music underlying the "Planet Rock" chant was nothing more than a jazzy revamp of New Position. The chant itself was lifted from an old-school rap track by Africa Bambaataa.

For some reason I always imagined Prince got the "planet rock you just can't stop" from George Clinton's Loopzilla (which I know got it from Afrika Bambatta) - I just never saw Prince digging Afrika Bambatta at the time, but knew he dug Mr. Clinton - wasn't there an interview at the time where he mentioned George's last release at the time - R&B Skeletons in the Closet?

But... The released version of It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night IS the studio recording. At least I always thought so, because if you remove the studio overdubs, then what is left?

So... Does it sound anything like on the album? How much of it did he overdub in the studio? According to DMSR, certainly a lot of it. Or what?

Take out the sung verses, Sheila's rap, everything but the rhythm section, Prince's directions and the crowd. . .
