I was wondering, [since many people seem to yearn for it]
would Prince be capable of releasing a collected videos
dvd set at all? If he doesn't have those recent tapes of
such shows, why would he still have possession of some of
his earlier/mid-period or even Gold era videos??

Seems like he just gets himself a copy to view or perhaps
not even that. Look at the Hits DVD Warners released with
about...oh... 60% of the vids missing.

It was a disgrace to release that. My guess is they don't
even have half the original shit anymore since Prince just
didn't give a fuck about it and things got fucked up.

Obviously, we're the collectors of Prince stuff. He doesn't seem to receive nor keep copies of his pressed and released material. Hence, the "e-mail". He's actually released/sold videos that were at least second generation copies.

As for older vids, Warners paid for all of his contractual promo videos. While they're feuding, we'll have to unfortunately suffer.

Let's just hope that Prince tucks his barbed tail between his legs and comes to his business senses.

I wonder about this same thing...it sure does seem like Prince doesn't even own copies of a vast amount of his work, especially the videos and filmed concerts. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he destroyed his copies - saddened, but not surprised. The quality of those "Beautiful Experience" and "SOV" tapes a couple years back were shocking, and the club's response to my complaints was even more eye-opening. They said, "It's the best quality that we have available, and we thought that since it was material members wanted, it would be good enough." I wonder if they were trying to skirt copyright laws somehow - I mean, they were taped off of Asian pay-per-view, what the hell is up with that?

Or who knows, maybe that's the best copy any of his closest circle could come up with...after all, it seems quite clear that he tends to surround himself with people who will praise anything he puts out, yet really aren't fans of his back catalog at all. The moderators have probably never even heard or seen many of the things that members ask for over in the NPGMindControl forums.

hmmm, I'm gonna say he has at least one copy of almost everything locked up, just as reference for him self.
Even with "the e-mail", i believe he owns all that stuff and almost all the bootlegs. pretty sure.
