I got N.E.W.S, great N.E.W.S

Whan I got home Friday Night NEWS was in my mailbox.

I like it. It reminds me of the Madhouse stuff and the Parade era. My favorite track is EAST. NEWS is very refreshing. What is our favorite track?

Lucky.

According to Amazon.ca, my order is delayed. They are now predicting it will be mailed between August 15 and August 23. I ordered it in July. Oh well, I like how they don't charge you for stuff until it's shipped, so I never pay for something I don't have.

I also ordered the Rutles: All You Need Is Cash, and it's just been shipped.

I've only heard East and South so far (courtesy Kazaa-Lite), and my opinions are that there are some very interesting progressions in the song. However, I think the 4 14 minute song gimmick will lead to the album's downfall. In East for example, it jumps around too much, and the styles change so suddenly, that things like the chicken grease riffs sound out of place. If he took the concept, and made several songs with them, without caring about their length, I think this could have been very good.

I'm looking forward to hearing the album as a whole though. For the most part, I don't think I can recall any of his albums getting this much negative buzz on the org. Not even Rave got this much negative attention. So I'll have to see.

I don't think NEWS is a bad album the way Rave is a bad album. I wouldn't even really consider NEWS to be bad at all. I think it's a bit bloodless compared to what we're used to from Prince, though I also think there's a lot of texture on NEWS that wasn't there on the Madhouse albums. I cleaned my house while listening to it this weekend, and it did the trick.
