Are some of you biting your tongue ? I'm in love all over again
With N.E.W.S This is the best piece Prince work I ain't heard since the O+> album and 2 think some of u's was talking trash about it . When I first purchased the CD I got admit, I was a lil nervous. I thought it was going 2 b another TRC where I would only listen 2 it once, then set it 2 the side only 2 let it collect dust but... When I heard it... my soul heard it ... my heart felt it... I know some of u are biting your tongues right now, cuz you thought this album was going 2 flop, but as far I'm concerned this is a classic piece of work that shows great musicianship and reminds me of what music use 2 be like before it poluated diabolic messages and unwanted truths. Mann this is music. It's everything what music is supposed to be. It's beautiful, It's spiritual and it's funky and 2 think it all came out the spirit of this little man... Prince U da man May the funk live on 4ever [This message was edited Mon Aug 11 11:20:48 PDT 2003 by DigitalLisa]

I remember back in the day, one of my very first contributions to prince.org was the thread: Sorry, but the Truth sucks. Since I have come to know some of the great people on this site, I have come to respect you all and have gotten a greater appreciation for some of his music. That being said, I feel I gave TRC and NEWS enough listens and have read enough reviews and orger opinions to gather my own. They really aren't for me. I just don't like either of them as a whole. If that is dsiing them, then so be it. Considered them dissed. As far as whether or not NEWS is considered a flop, the ones buying it are diehard Prince fans of which some would buy something just because it's a Prince album. That doesn't make it a good album.

"Xpectation" and "C Note" were way better.

You know not everybody understand what real music is either.I always say those who know music are going 2 buy a Prince album, most people who are in2 Prince (besides his ass) Are either musicians, song writers, music producers poets of some sort... People who understand artmanship will understand the music. Cuz you know Just because its popular don't means it's a good album either, take JLO 4 example number one album in the country... but it suxed monkey balls. If Prince is making good music from his heart I would rather listen 2 good pure music, rather then some CD that's popular at that moment. Frankly half the people who are in the music scene won't be around 4 next 20 yrs... some won't even be around 4 the next 20 minutes [This message was edited Mon Aug 11 13:56:42 PDT 2003 by DigitalLisa]

NEWS is NOT Prince's best music in years, sorry. It has its moments, but hardly finds any "new direction in music" It's Prince jamming in a kind of pre-ordained plan, emphasizing pure musicianship at the expense of accessibility.
I think it's great that he is so much into musicians and craftmanship these days, as it was necessary to reassert his chops after NPS, Rave and High, which were not very interesting pop, rnb or rock. These records showed a lack of interest in his art. TRC, Xpectation and NEWS are the opposite, but NEWS is the other extreme. Now, I hope he will refocus again, because it's time to stop being so serious and have fun with the various genres he knows so well, this time with the musicality that was lacking in the late 90's and early zero-zeroes..

I like south and east. A bit. they've grown on me.But it's still bottom of the pile in terms of his career recordings for me. I don't think prince intended to make any major statement with this CD, and i find it odd that the far more interesting (but still dull!) Xpectation wasn't released instead.
This sounds like a few talented cats just jamming at lunchtime, which i think was the case.
