1991 I'd like this thread to be about all of our reflections of what was happening in and around the year 1991. Musical, cultural and social influences on ourselves and Prince. I'll start by listing the albums I have in my collection from that year:
Nirvana - Nevermind U2 - Achtung Baby Prince and the NPG - Diamonds & Pearls Michael Jackson - Dangerous Lenny Kravitz - Mama Said What a great year?! I was 13 years of age and saw my first Prince concert. 4 rows from the front, centre stage at Earls Court, London. I'd say this year marked my true love affair with Prince, which began with Tim Burton / Batdance and ended after the Gold era (although I didn't realise it at the time). Any thoughts?

Ugh...miserable year for me. Lonely, lost. But I did perk up after reading "The Fountainhead" that year. Fear is the mind-killer.

That was the year of my first ever Prince concert also, erm, I think! Saw him at Earls Court, and was hooked since then! He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. - Albert Einstein

"Mama Said" is the one I listen to the most from the list so far..
...a timeless classic from Lenny Kravitz which blew "Diamonds & Pearls" out of the water, in my eyes. Just wish Lenny could pull another great album like this out of the bag (yes, I've got every Lenny album, but "Mama Said" just works on every level for me!) So, you're 33 years old? Well, Prince is 45. Damn, he's old enough to be my dad. Never thought of it like that before...

Absolutely. It turned me around 180 degrees...forever after my God was to be found inside. I foamed at the mouth for a couple years afterward, kind of like a rabid loaded spring, but eventually my pendelum swung more evenly back to center. And I've never been the same person since. During this period the B-side, "Horny Pony," seemed to resonate with me more than most of the other tracks on D&P. Prince having fun shocking people...me having fun being righteously blasphemous. Yep...life began at 21. Fear is the mind-killer.

Yep, I agree with the lightsaber toting skeleton. Read The Fountainhead. It's one of those that will change your perception of the world! '91 -- I would have been a junior in High School -- I was way into Prince, Public Enemy, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, They Might be Giants, and Fishbone. Good times. Good times.
