I was at home listening to the B-Sides for the first time thinking "why was this never used on an album?". The same was true for "17 Days".

nod

Me too!

I remember buying the Hits/B-sides, I'd only been into Prince for about 12 months, and the b-sides disc was just fantastic for a new fan.

The hits set was a bit odd because it missed off several hits (the Batman singles etc), but the 3CD was a fantastic release really - better than a lot of artists get for a best of.

Dallas, TX 1985. My brother took me on a trip to Sound Warehouse to get the 12" maxi for Raspberry Beret. Got home, put the needle to the groove, happy as hell after hearing the remix with the cough and all. Flipped that sucka over and heard one of the greatest Prince tunes ever written in all 6 minutes of its glory. worship

I heard it in my older cousin's car.He used to wear his hair like P's and he looked like somebody from the P scene. We were really into the music,of course, and he had everything before I did because he worked 3 jobs ,even though he was studying medicine in college.

anyway...

as for me, I was at home, in 1985, and it came on the radio. My jaw dropped. I couldn't believe this masterpiece was coming from Prince. Radio played the hell out of it that summer.

I rode my bicycle to Fred Meyer four miles away just to see if they had the Raspberry Beret 12-inch single. They did!! I bought it with the very little money I had, and excitedly rode back home to put it on my wrecka-playa. That afternoon was a trip-and-a-half!! I played both sides over and over and over again. And yeah, I was a bit upset with Prince that he dared put such a great song on the B-side!! I thought he should've saved that one for later release. One of my all-time favs, fo'sho!

You guys are good. You have memories like elephants.

What I do remember is when I heard it I thought the song was incredible. It still remains one of my all time favorites but I believe the first time I heard it was at a friends house in his basement where all the stereo equipment was. And we played it over and over real loud.

Well since I'm an old prince fan, I remember knowing that the b-sides were always just as good as the A side so whenever I bought a single, I just naturally flipped it over.

I think it sucks that singles aren't as big as they used to me. I think artist would put out songs that didn't make the cd/album on the b-side.

That's cuz albums aren't as big as they used to be. You rarely get a whole album of quality stuff, so what would be the use of extra songs on the b-side.

As for She's Always In My Hair...summer of 85', I was 13, and I walked 2 miles to the wrecka stow, in the snow, uphill both ways. Well, no snow but I did go over a freeway. My ALL-TIME favorite b-side. Had to hear it this morning.

B-Sides, that was pure indulgence from a decade of unheard beauties (for us new/ish fans). Great day, I didn't even listen to Hits 1 and 2 - straight to B then back for pope, peach, NCTY, and Pink Cashmere.

it was in 1993. Prince was all over MTV Europe (Coca Cola report) with his tour (Act II or III, I've never really known). They aired an excerpt of "She's Always in My Hair" peformed live (Prince in a white suit with the snake and the symbol on his back). Later I've heard the short version from Hits/B-Sides. And then (don't remember when though) I got the 12" inch single.

A great song, I agree.

When I bought the Hits/B-Side back in 2001, I love it. Which I could hear the 12 version that Dansa talk about.

Its a shame that he was talking about Jill Jones in that song lol

Probably when i bought Raspberry beret 12" in '85. My folks owned a local shop at the time and my bedroom was directly above the shop entrance, i used to entertain the customers and the local kids, much to my parents annoyance.

good days.

I hear ya on that one...I miss the excitement of going to the record store and flipping the single over to check the B-side.

Someone said here that this song should have been on an album. Strange, because back in early 85,'there was a report that went out here locally on the radio, that the song was gonna be the first single from the new album...Around The World In A Day.

A classic rock song, very original. Only Prince could have done a song like this. Unique and really hits you in the guts. The synth lines are levatating. The guitar riff is a monster. Live, this shit is always hype.

Deja, you and me gotta talk girl..lol.

At my town's local youth center. It was a selection on the jukebox they had there.

That day was also when I heard 17 Days for the first time.

Such good memories of those exciting days...
