Motor City Affair!

I was able to get hold of a video called Motor City Affair, a Parade era liveshow ('86) and watched it for the first time yesterday.

Man, what a show, this must have been one of the funkiest tours he ever did! And the energy coming from Prince was amazing: singing, running around, dancing, jumping, screaming, what a showman!

I loved the ONA tour, and still think he's a very good live artist, but his shows aren't as exciting anymore like they were in the 80's. I miss the energy and rawness nowadays. His current band is very good, but also very polished. I think The Revolution was more raw and funky.

I also love the Linn Drum he used live a lot in the eighties shows, that typical funky Prince drumsound. I have always defended Prince's latest albums over here and appreciate them for what they are, but after having seen this video I realise that he'll probably never reach that level of energy and raw funk anymore.

sad
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

well, he´s no longer in his 20s.

you just can´t ask a 45 year old man to be as energetic as he used to be 20 years ago, can you?

we gotta be realistic people! wink

by the way, I want to see all those shows...badly!!

Yeah, Dr. Fink is great. But I like Renato Neto's playing just as much, this guy is quite amazing. He can freak it out on the keys as well. Listen to Nighttown or Bataclan 2002 aftershows...

Have you seen the Motor City Affair video, manki?

I'm not asking, I'm just noticing.

I was watching the Budokan and Kokusai videos earlier this week and they are solid shows that I enjoy and appreciate very much. But watching this Parade era live show made me realise how much Prince's youthfull energy and showmanship contributed to the magical live experience.

I have to agree.
I've recently watched the Kokusai show back to back with the Lovesexy (Dortmund). I'd say he burned about 10 times the calories in Dortmund compared with the ONA tour.
He sure was wild back then. I really miss the splits!

Darla

It used to be "Just the 80s" stuff for me, but I recently watched a bunch of JOTY/NPS concerts and they have to be the funkiest shit I've seen yet! I mean songs like "Face Down" live are a different animal all together live...

i taped over my copy of that show but i have it on a boot somewhere.
one of my favourite prince shows eva.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!
