Is anyone actually happy that Prince stopped cursing and singing nasty stuff??

Just wondering...I ,personally, used to be offended by them especially when I was a kid and won't ever let my mom see me listening to his music (I grew up in a conservative Christian household), so when he did stop cursing in his later music, it was actually good news for me. except that he has gone to the other extreme-- pushing his beliefs down people's throats...but overall, I am happy with his newer stuff and abandoning the more graphic use of sex stuff and cursing of his past songs...he has matured in that way, I say...from carnal to a spiritual being!!

I liked the cursing when I was a kid. It was part of my rebellion.
I remember playing Erotic City very loud and my mum coming into the room having finally realised what the lyrics were!! lol

Now that I have two young children, it's nice to be able to jam(as much as you can nowadays) to Prince music in the car and not have to worry about turning the volume down or skipping a song altogether. Hell, since 1998, The Gold Experience has always started with Endorphinmachine...when my kids are in the car.

My brother has just got engaged 2 a girl with a kid from a previous relationship and has got him singing along with Prince tunes (It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night is Callums current fave!!). Fortunately Callums not currently twigged that P's singing 'Can't nobody fuck with us' under Sheilas rap!! lol

Prince is still the same person... guitar
He was and is always talkin spirituality...
Saying so called "bad words" has nothing to do with it...
He still sings about sex... He knows and has known that
sex and spirituality are really one thing...
Life is real... as is The Spiritual World... wink Always was and is... flower

It doesnt' make a difference to me. But the raunchy lyrics of some of his good songs, I often have to be careful who's listening when I'm playing them...

I think it's a shame. Not per se, but bcause the rock/funk fusion thing went away with it.

It's funny though, about not beeing able to listen to Prince around children. There's no country i can think of where there's such a big woopla about curse words (and at the same time there's more cursing in movies or music then elsewhere bcause it's 'not done'). I remember visiting the US when i was younger, and since english curse words are pretty common where i live, at least that part of the english language i could use to express myself. The family where i stayed was really staring at me that first night. And then one of the kids (10yrs old) says to me: 'we don't use that kinda language around here'. My spontaneous reply: 'Oh, shit, sorry' lol

For some reason, I miss the cursing. The singing nasty stuff, Well.. It's okay but to nasty like hardcore nasty. I mean, There isn't nothing wrong with cursing the thing is i don't like music that has a curse word in every sentence. You can make positive music with out cursing. I am just saying for some reason i miss it. nod

Ya'll don't listen to me..

If he had just stopped cussing I'd have no problem with it. But what pisses me off is him ruining the old stuff by editing it. And he sounds stupid trying not to cuss, like during the acoustic show at the Celly, "leave us the BLANK alone". The blank?? He didn't know any other adjectives other than cuss words???

Erotic city didn't have any cursing.

This is what people think the lyrics to the chorus are:

If we cannot make babies
Maybe we can make some time
Fuck so pretty, U and me
Erotic City come alive
We could fuck until the dawn
Makin' love 'til cherry's gone
Erotic City, can't U see?
Fuck so pretty, U and me

This is what it's really saying

If we cannot make babies
Maybe we can make some time
thoughts of pretty, U and me
Erotic City come alive
We could funk until the dawn
Makin' love 'til cherry's gone
Erotic City, can't U see?
thoughts of pretty, U and me

I don't really mind that the new music doesn't have cursing (although I think it's pointless to use words like "Duck" instead of "Fuck") but I am bothered when he edits his old music to perform it live or to release it via the club.

Which is worse, Prince's use of BLANK or MJ calling his son Blanket??

"WE DON'T GIVE A DUCK WHAT U GOT ON" i thught it was kinda cute... I like the cursing for the emphasis(there is no other reason to use it) "PLAY THAT MF*** BASS". BUT IT IS COMFORTING TO KNOW THAT I CAN HAVE A CHILD IN MY CAR AND NOT HAVE TO FAST FORWARD TO ANOTHER SONG.

I wish he hadn't gone so squeaky clean, but I'm at least glad he's not going over the top with the cursing like in Exodus. The swearing there detracted from the album, tho' it's still a BLANK masterpiece smile

If you feel it, say it. Censoring "curse" words is bullshit. Prince used to sing about his good side and his bad side, now he just pretends his bad side doesn't exist.

That's the thing tho, we ALL know to replace the word "duck" with "fuck", so what is being accomplished???

now that i got twin girls aged 2.5 years who are learning to love funk its great that i can play them purple stuff without swearing. Great songs do not need swearing, would swearing have made the Beatles, Jimmi, Marvin, etc any better. Prince is growing up , its cool.

I was never bothered by the cursing, but I didn't care either way most of the time. I just don't like the fact that he stopped because Larry G. told him it was wrong. That's what I have a problem with.
