Dez is my favorite all time band member, followed by Andre Cymone. Harlepolis, I couldn't agree with you more when you said,"Wendy, I don't know how in the hell he went from Dez 2 Wendy." She seems like a nice enough person, but as a guitarist...come on. Dez was a beast on solos. I think that he complimented Prince a lot better than her. I also think that he pushed Prince's guitar playing, especially those solos. Whenever I hear LRC, he's the first one that I think of. The image of him and P together in that video hasn'tbeen matched.

Favs:

BASS:
Levi: diverse player.
Mark Brown(real name):minneapolis funk bass king (besides P)
Rhonda: No joke. Diverse. Met her briefly in the "DC days".

GUITAR:
Mico: only one who could nearly fool me on the funk guitar.

DRUMS:
Sheila: edgy and tight, passion.
Mike Bland: Thunder.
John Blackwell: EVERYTHING.

KEYS:
Dr.Fink: Octopus with an arsenal hybrid analog/digital...held down much ground on the Lovesexy tour.
Renato: Knows about key solos, diverse jazz and funk.

HORNS:
Eric Leeds:
Matt Blistan
These two covered more ground than a four-piece.
Greg Boyer: trombone grease...old-school jazz tone.
can't include Maceo, 'cause... well... FUNK HISTORY 001-JB.

LEAST LIKED:
Kirk J (no offense)
Wendy (I dare U 2 convince me otherwise)
Tony M.

PEACE!

G.

Wendy-dissing is ridiculous. Dig her rhythm playing on "Irresistible Bitch/Possessed" from the Purple Rain tour.

And how you can compare one keyboardist to the next is beyond me (except for Tommy's skirt and hair). They all covered the parts that Prince wrote adequately.

Rosie Gaines: far better, and far more consistent a vocalist than the late Boni Boyer. Plus, she could rap, too! Check out your Nude Tour/D&P bootlegs. Boni blows it during "I Wish You Heaven" from the Dortmund Lovesexy show.

Whoa.

It's not Wendy dissing, it's just that she couldn't come close to Miko on guitar...or Levi, or Mike Scott...or Dez. I remember how in the '80s, people used to think it was her on Kiss and When Doves Cry (both entirely done by Prince)... just 'cause of the videos. She was DEFINATELY overrated on guitar... no offense to her, no other issues I have.

NOW, keyboard players all have an individual style, just like any other instrumentalist.

This is all about favorites anyway, so everyone here has a right to dig who they dig 4 whatever reason.

faves:
1. lisa (my absolute fav)
2.fink (BEST keyboard player P ever had in his band, imho)
3.dez (Words can't even descirbe this man's playing)
4.sheila e. (This girl is baddd, though the general thought that she's holy-than-thou gets on my nerves, she's still good)
5.brownmark (HIGHLY underrated)

least faves (in no particular order)
Tony M. (this brutha had so many probalems I can't even begin to list them)
Tommy B (this man is about as sexy as my grandma is)
Gayle Chapman (this girl should'v never even attemped to sing, my poor, poor ears disbelief)

I guess some are wondering where Wendy is...she was okay back then, definitely has improved. I don't think she was as horrible as some are making her out to be. If I were rating her musicianship after being with Prince, she would be up there, but with Prince she was just average, those that are familiar with W&L's solo work would probably agree that she got much better. As for callng her a witch, that was completely uncalled for, rolleyes, I do agree with the rest of the not so good comments about her.
If I were rating personality she'd be #1, though
definitely had the most spunk out of any band memebers.
The rest are good/great/okay, just not my favs.

But let's not forget she was playing what the parts called for. She played the shit out of Alexa de Paris on the Parade tour AND she has some classic solos on their solo work.

Do I have to pick just one?

I really fancy Prince's female counterparts.

-Wendy (they're chemistry on stage was just off the chain! ie. the "America" video and "Parade" tour).

-Cat (the best dancer he ever fucked with)

-Sheila E. (know she can play the hell outta them drums)

-Boni Boyer pray (the rawness and church-like voice she brought to the band was incredible)

The Good…..

I really like the line up he has today. It's pretty hard to beat the bass of Rhonda, keys of Renato and John on drums, Maceo well he's band alll on his own.

I loved Dr Fink, mad as a box
Eric, Levi, Michael B, Sonny
Rosie did add a certain something. But maybe just against the nightmare of Tony M.
How can you not like Sheila

Which leads to

The Bad…..

Tony M (of course)

The Ugly…..

Tommy fucking Barbarella
And Cat – how big can a woman’s feet be? Flopping around on stage like a rag doll with canoes for shoes – not my favourite person I’m afraid.
Happy is he who finds out the causes for things.Virgil (70-19 BC). Virgil was such a lying bastard!
