I really don't know why do people find this cut groundbreaking. Don't get me wrong its dope & I love it but I don't get whats so "groundbreaking" in that cut. Its avarage IMHO.

I think it was a hell of a funky pop song that could have been his biggest hit. Maybe not groundbreaking but it sounds really good!

I just think the imagery and mood evoked in this song are superb.
The lyrics are simple but the words are so carefully chosen as to be poetic in my eyes.

The first time I heard it I wanted to be very silent and listen to the music and words. He was cranking out so much at the time, how could everything be perfect? I listened for holes, but there are no missteps on this song.

And like Doves and Anna Stesia, the music and words echo one another and fit together so cohesively that it's almost hypnotic.

I revere 17 Days for the composition it is.

But in addition to that... I also revere it because I heard it during the Purple Rain era when every thing Prince put together was golden It just continued his unbelievable streak of awesomeness.

When I heard it, i was like, "damn, even the B-sides are awesome!"

And because of every link in that streak Prince will be forever remembered as a master.

synthia...i agree. the imagery,the lyrics,the groove,the mood...his singing...the bass...everything its close to

take me with u ON the album! i'm not gonna call it a
"groundbreaking song" all i'm saying is its one hell of
a song. and i love singing it!

Hi Charles! wave

Now, don't you go messin with Darling Nikki, boy!

And while 17 days is better than Take Me With You, I kinda like having it on a b-side.

Prince made you want to go out and buy singles just to get the b-sides.

Not many artists could do that.

Now with CD singles and re-mixing, those days are sadly gone.

That intro is ferocious. Classic odd guitar work into one of Prince's funkiest basslines.
