Nothing Beats The Hits!

After all the bootlegs, outtakes, rarities, live stuff, npgmc-only tracks, collaborations etc, do you ever revisit the commercial successes? I know I do! I just burned me a cdr, tracklist:

- I wanna be your lover (LP version)
- Controversy (LP version)
- 1999 (LP version)
- Let's Go Crazy (12")
- Kiss (12")
- Sign "O" the Times
- U Got The Look (Long Look)
- Superfunkycalifrigisexy (ok so that one's not a hit, sue me)
-Alphabet Street

And I'm digging the hell out of it. So here's my statement: nothing in his catlogue beats Prince's hits!

Yeah, one has to admit, there was a time when I think that all his singles were ace!! And deservedly, they were hits. Not to say that other songs on his albums were worse - but the singles were just great. Prince had a great person at Warner's choosing which songs to drop as singles (or Prince himself made marvellous choices) - remember, singles are there to stirr interest in the album, and thus must be commercially sound choices.

Nowadays, I wonder - still great Prince songs, but the singles are not the greatest choices of the albums (e.g. why no "baby knows" or "so far, so pleased" of Rave - would have gotten airplay, would have pushed Rave)

And I remember the times when I bought all the 12 inches - just for the incredible back sides. Now, we only get 5 different house mixes (but this is the case with most singles, I know)

U got the look - gee, I loved that 12 inch, and what a groovy backside. Or the Hot thing long versions on ICNTTPOYM

Just my opinion
