The Controversy Tour beats all

Although Controversy is a relatively lesser album, stuck between Prince’s masterpieces Dirty Mind and 1999, the accompanying tour is the highlight of Prince’s career.

The Dirty Mind tour is less brilliant, and during the 1999-tour Prince begins to develop his commercial talent ... at least it isn’t very asskickin’ anymore.
The real highlights: Houston, December 9th 1981 and Minneapolis March 8th 1982.
Does anybody agree?

I agree, and have thought this myself for a while now
The below City Lights shows are absolutely breathtaking and performed at break-neck speed with such vigour and enthusiasm, it's like listening to a damn rave!
COLUMBIA Dec 12th 1981
SAGINAW Feb 4th 1982

Also, you're spot on HOUSTON Dec 9th 191 is amazing, if only as the only boot to have PRIVATE JOY on it! My fav song from Controversy btw smile

p.s. I have the boot cd-video of WASHINGTON 21st Nov 1981 called The Second Coming and it's a soundboard Pro Shot film that runs for 75mins - magic!

The HIS ROYAL BADNESS boot with the New Orleans gig is probably the BEST though of all the Controversy boots, I've also got a fan cdr that was remastered from the original tape that is much better than the HRB boot, and it's properly indexed/tracked too!

i recently got a copy of houston '81 on video (it's sittin in my vcr right this minute!), and it's become one of my fave shows to watch, right along with ritz '81. the houston show's a lot of fun to watch, it's crazy.

columbia and saginaw are kick-ass, too! horns
