Although this one can be debated like Dorothy Parker, I'll put it in anyway. In "God Created Woman", both Adam and Eve were referred to but not named. As to them being "real", that's possibly up to your historical and religious belief.

Macey Gray - "Mellow"

I thought it was Erykah Badu, since she and Common are an item...

I could be wrong...

On TRC it's "Macy" but he changed those names around a lot
when he perfomed the song. I think the Badu mention is on
the ONA Live album. I'm not sure tho since I haven't been
listening to it since...ehm...the first time.

Does Prince shouting, "Doctor" (Dr. Fink?) in Baby I'm a Star count?

Great thread livewire!clapping

I'm always thinking about this in regards to rap lyrics. Man, some of the real people references in rap are un-be-lievable! I think the reference to Gianni Versace's killer, Andrew Cunanan, in Shyne's Bad Boys takes the prize for most bizarre RP reference in my opinion.

When P was on Oprah discussing Emacipation, he stated that he was good friends with John Jr. and had performed "Forever In My Life" for his and Caroline's wedding. So, I assumed that when he said John K. he meant him, but I could be wrong, still.

Also on "White Mansion," he mentions Gucci, Versace, etc.

One more: On Annie Christian, he makes reference to Wayne Williams, the accused murderer of black children who were murdered in Atlanta back in the early '80s, though he never states his name.

Wishin' I had duckets to live like Kirby Puckett

in the same song. God, what a lame-ass rap that is.

The song itself is kickin tho!

He's also referring to his mother in Reflection, his brother in Lady Cab Driver, and his sister in... well, you know.

69

Also, he makes an indirect reference to Morris in Pop Life and Jimmy and Terry and a whole bunch of other guys in Old Friends 4 Sale.

And in Bob George:

"Is Mr. George home?
Hello, Mr. George?
This is your conscience, motherfucker. Why don't you leave motherfuckers alone?

Who is Jim Crow? Come on now, let's look in our American History books ...

adj.
Upholding or practicing discrimination against and segregation of Black people: Jim Crow laws; a Jim Crow town.
Reserved or set aside for a racial or ethnic group that is to be discriminated against: “I told them I wouldn't take a Jim Crow job” (Ralph Bunche).
