Fan-friggin'-tastic stuff!!
His hair was BAD, his clothes were WORSE, and boy was he sweating, but...for me, it started right there and then.
It was also Wendy's debut performance with the Revolution.
In my Top 10 boots anyhow.

hahaha, it's nice to be recognized! I've been away all weekend, but believe me I've been thinking about this. July 31st was also my 10th anniversary of seeing Prince for the first time, at Wembley Stadium. Ah, good times...

For those of us who haven't seen or heard this historic show, could someone give us a rundown of all that went down that night? I'd love to hear about it!

P.S. Just got back from a trip to Minnesota (family reunion) and visited the Minnesota History Center. They have a music exhibit and one of the displays shows a bunch of old advirtisements for First Avenue shows one of which being the show referred to in this thread. Very cool.

Thought I'd get in on this before some fam does. I'm a FAN dammit.

The show opens with the RAWEST version of Let's Go Crazy. The album version is great, but a mastered version of this would be the bomb.

Next, a short, but lovely version of When You Were Mine, with the greatest lyrics "I know you're goin with another fellow, I don't care, I'll kick his ass, baby, I ain't too yellow"... Hell yeah

The definitive A Case Of You (even if it's not the whole song) follows, and continues to put the One Nite Alone studio version to shame. Why did he even bother?

mmm... Computer Blue. The extra verse is here, as well as a blistering solo. I love the 11 minute outake, but I'll take this live take anyday over any other.

Delirious is next, not too special but a solid version none the less...

A long throbbing synth intro eventually leads into that "Should have been a b-side dammit" Electric Intercouse. Fucking excellent. Back when I was single, I used to... nevermind.

A nice version of Automatic, but it seems out of place in this set.

Then: I Would Die 4 U/Baby I'm A Star.. This take, with considerable overdubs and editing, became the album versions of those songs. This is most noticable on Baby I'm A Star. Great energy "There's A Party Here Tonight!!"

Prince Introduces Wendy officially to the crowd during Little Red Corvette, and she pulls it off respectably. She stumbles briefly during the solo, but fuck it, it was her first night out. Gotta luv Wendy.

Show's over? Not barely...

Someone from the organization that the show was a benefit for comes out, calls Prince to the stage, and gives him a bunch of flowers.

Then, it cuts to the opening chords of Purple Rain. This alone is worth the price of a copy of this show, as anyone will tell you. This is the version that ended up on the album, it's from this show. The thing is tho, there wasn't room on the soundtrack for a 13 minute anthem. So it was edited down to the 8:45 that we all grew up listening to. In this unedited take, there's an extra verse, and a much longer solo. What trips me out is how that end solo ended up edited for the album. They took a few seconds here, a few measures there. When you hear the uncut solo for the first time, it's a ride. Everytime you think you got it pegged, it goes into another section that was edited out. It's also kinda neat to hear the coda without the orchestra over it.

But, as they say, "It Ain't Over..."

Critics of this show (and there are some, believe it or not) complain that there isn't much funk in this set. for those, DMSR is for them. If this track was released by the Time, here it would be just like this. Funkier than 10 day old chitlins. And it don't stop, even into a quick snatch of "Horny Toad" and "Sexy Dancer" in the middle. "Telephone, Hello? You want what? You want some horns? Hold on GIMMIE SOME HORNS!"

it finally ends. find this show at all costs and remember who this man so many people still worship USED TO BE.

Five Stars.
Keep your headphones on.

It can't be better than the 86 birthday show. And Electric Intercoarse, is no masterpiece. It is a good ballad--leave it at that.
