The book that contains all of Prince's Recording Sessions! Is there a book that chronicles all of Prince's studio sessions day-by-day? I've seen books and articles that talk about part of them but is there one out there that lists them all? The Beatles, Hendrix, Clapton, and The Monkees have books about them in the studio but why not one about Prince. If there isn't one out there, then Boris Fishpaw should write one. He seems to always know when stuff was worked on, etc. My guess is that he worked in the studio with Prince.
I guess my question is, "Is there a book and if not, would anyone else be interested in a book like this?" How well do you think this would sell if Prince did it, or if someone like Boris, DavidEye or Per Nilson (all of them write for Uptown I think) did it. Someone needs to get crackin'.

I've read that as well as as Days o' Wild. Both are very good books but with all of that information out there isn't there some book that lists just the studio session (when and where anything was recorded?).
BORIS FISHPAW, DAVIDEYE OR PER NILSON PLEASE WRITE A BOOK LIKE THIS! Would anyone else be interested in that book or am I the only one who gets a kick out of that stuff?

all those guys should team up big time. That would be amazing. It sounds like those three have been there for some of the sessions. I'd love to hear their thoughts on what it was like to be in the room with him during some of these sessions.

Funny, you never see Boris and Per Nilson in the same place at the same time... If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Would anyone else be interested in that book or am I the only one who gets a kick out of that stuff? dddope...turn it up,dmsr, and days of wild are as close as you'll get..at least right now. but i tell ya...if you've ever read the Beatles Recording Sessions coffee table book that sort of book would fit Prince to a tee. The cool thing about the Beatles book is the author had access to every take of every song the fabs did,and talked about various takes too...imagine somebody (alan leeds, eric's brother who been researching james brown's archives for years and worked for prince...during his breakthrough period, would do justice to this) giving the "little guy" the same treatment! Wb has all of the masters (and takes) at least during p's peak years) maybe they can commission somebody like Leeds to do it. as near as i can tell most of prince's former recording engineers are still alive...so they should be easy to check information on. the question is are they're enough of us serious fans out there that would make this book worth pursuing? i ask that cuz if p's record sales are low...what publisher would waste their time and money on something like this? (i'm just sayin"...i'd buy the book...but then again i'm obsessed about the way my fave musicians create their Art!) youngca...yeah i'd vote for d-eye & boris to write the sucker!)

Dippy-
Let me give you a tip. There is a book like this in the works. This I know for a fact. It will not be an official book but someone very connected is working on something like that. When it gets done, will anyone buy it? The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Like Paul Williams' 'Performing Artist' series on Dylan - two of the best books I've ever read on any musician's body of work.

If there is an interest in a book like this, I know of someone who has enough information to write a very cool book. The problem is that writing a book like this (or even Alex Hahn's book) is a labor of love. It can take years to get it right (and the org has proven how important that is!)
So, bottom line. Is something like this something that would sell? As a fan, would you buy it? Jestyr said: Dude - you KNOW I'd buy it! Let me help too. Jestyr- Do you think people would like hearing about how songs like 1999 and When Doves Cry were created? What about songs that few have heard like Adonis & Bathsheba and Cosmic Day? Would people buy a book like that? Yes - I think something like that would sell jillions. A real day by day look; like that Hendrix book a few years ago. That would be way better than the obnoxious and completely uninformative 'lists' that make up much of Turn It Up 2.0! And you need a microscope to sift through Days of Wild - especially now that I'm gettin' older and my eyesight is fadin. Hey - when are you gonna pick up your N.E.W.S.?
