Plenty of Prince's songs have been re-recorded, and most have turned out great. Off the top of my head I can think of: We Can Funk, Tick Tick Bang, Feel U Up and Irresistable Bitch. I'm sure there are plenty more, and some that we aren't even aware of as being a re-recording.

All those songs were re-recorded when he had some fire in his belly.

The comment about 1999: The New Master is both justified, and terrifying for the prospect of re-recordings.

those songs were recorded 85-88 going back and reworking would prob lead to an overpolished sound plus what ever is hot treatment, plus a new JW stance or something that would ruin it.

I like my jewel box copy with tape hiss and all.
