Prince Screams

The one thing I miss in Prince's music, is when he use 2 screeeaaam at the top of his lungs , letting out all his anxieties and aggresions right in the middle of song. I
mean it just wasn't a Prince song unless he topped it off with his high pitched voice with a OW! or a Oh Yeah! Right in the middle of his song. Y'all know the song Cindy C (from the black album), Where Prince starts screaming his lungs out at the girl in the background? I love the prt when Prince starts screaming in the background 2 some

"Come Cindy, Come on Cindy
Cindy Don't you wanna play wit me...awww?!!!"

girl... lol Only Prince could get away with some crazy stuff like that ...

There ain't 2 many Folks who can scream like that and get away with it except ... y'all know master p? lol He didn't really scream but he use 2 always say Huh! lol Whenever Master P did he Huh's, I use 2 look at like that's his way of when Prince screams in the song, they just got 2 the point where they where really feeling the song and it came out as a owww!!!

I agree to a certain extent. But I don't think the lack of screams is just a simple matter of physical/vocal limitations from getting older. I mean, that may be part of the reason. But what I think a lot of fans are forgetting is that Prince is first and foremost an artist. As an artist, Prince's work is a reflection of who is and where he is at in his life right now.

Perhaps when he was younger, he felt agression and rage and therefore, the "screams" in his music came out naturally. But if he as at a point in his life where he is trully free and doesn't feel rage, then why scream??? And even if he did, would the scream be "true"? Maybe now he doesn't want to scream, maybe he wants to wisper or maybe he doesn't want to speak at all.

I think a lot of fans have really misunderstood where Prince is at right now in his life. Prince's music is what it is not simply because he's getting older but because of the totality of everything that he has been through in his life up to this very point. His art is a reflection of that. If people really understood this very basic issue, then I think they would have a better appreciation for Prince's current output.

I think the screaming and techniques has nothing really to do with appreciating the music, I appreciate his music regardless if im ready for it, or pass the stage.

Yes, Im almost positive the fact about being younger and the anger ect.. ure exactly right, but I'd love to see Prince perform some of those live (Screamers)now, I debate on the outcome.

Isn't there a little scream in "Everlasting now" also? Or maybe I'm just confusing the live version with the TRC version? confuse

Is it me or does Prince's scream near the end of ENdorphine Machine, where it's just his scream alone as the music has stopped, sound a bit too flemy ? Or was there too much saliva in his throat for it to be a good dry Prince scream?

I always get a bit queasy when I hear the scream.

What do you say ?

The scream at the end is so hilarious. I was in an awful mood the other day and I put that song on just so I could laugh. Ooooweeeahhh!! That's so funny that some else thinks it sounds like a 'dry scream'. falloff

Seems to make sense. He doesn't do the splits so much now either.

It's good though that it isn't such a part of his sound that he's forced to sample himself.

Last time I heard a new Michael Jackson song (admittedly a long time ago) it sounded a bit desperate because he was trying so hard to get lots of oohs and squeals in there.

I know that I'm in the minority here, but I think that one of the reasons why P is hated so much is precisely BECAUSE of the screams! Flame on, but I think it's true! When visiting my good friends in Europe, they told me that P is called "The Twat" in Germany and "The Brat" in England, and one of the reasons is because "he's just a man with a guitar who does shitty music and SCREAMS!"

I really hate it when he screams. The worst part of Computer Blue is when he yelps and the worst part of Something in the Water...is the end when he screams. I hate it! He screws up some of his best songs when he screams! YUCK!!! omfg

i agree, i have brother who was famous in this area for doing led zepplin, esp the screams and now he is in his forties and if he does one of those early in the evening, he is toast by the end of the song and can't do the rest of the nite. he is worried about it blowing out his higher registers altogether..

as for P's screams, i always liked the idea of them.
but when i was trying to turn someone on to P, they always seemed to be on the same song i was using and i would always cringe internally in embarrassment thinking (this may be enuf to turn this person off). Oh well, I miss 'em too, but i understand if he doesn't want to take the chance with his voice.
