Was there ever an alternate tracklist for *Lovesexy* ?

i know with alot of albums they were originally meant 2 have other tracks ...ie; SOTT was meant 2 b Dream factory & Crystal Ball... TGE was meant 2 have Days O Wild...

but is the *Lovesexy* we hear now the one intended originally?

same goes for the Black Album,Purple Rain,D&P & prince

smile
peace if u can help

I'd love to see what he has that never surfaced from that period... U know he's got some rarities/demos from that period that didnt get out.. (meaning bootlegged and such)

"I did Lovesexy in seven weeks from start to finish, and most of it was recorded in the order it was on the record. There were a couple of funky things I did at the end and put on earlier, but it's pretty much how you hear it"

Hey I just realised that was my 500th post! Hooray for me! and what a good way for it to go - in a topic about my favorite Prince album!

There were only two earlier versions of Lovesexy.
(neither of which were radically different to the released version)

version 1:

eye No (the same)
Alphabet St. (the same)
Glam Slam (the same)
Anna Stesia (the same)
Dance On (the same)
Lovesexy (completely different unreleased version)
The Line (unreleased)
Positivity (includes the 'Music Is The Key' rap from Cindy C.)

'When 2 R In Love' was then added to the album,
then 'Lovesexy' was completely re-recorded from scratch.
The lyrics were roughly the same, but musically, it was a
totally different song. The last song recorded for the
album was 'I Wish U Heaven'. It replaced 'The Line', which
still remains unreleased (though Boni's scream from it was
used on the intro to 'Acknowledge Me').

version 2:

eye No (the same)
Alphabet St. (the same)
Glam Slam (the same)
Anna Stesia (the same)
Dance On (the same)
Lovesexy (the same)
When 2 R In Love (the same)
I Wish U Heaven (slightly different mix)
Positivity (still includes the 'Music Is The Key' Rap)

'I Wish U Heaven' was tweaked slightly (a guitar part was
replaced with keyboards), and the 'Music Is The Key' rap
in 'Positivity' (that had previously been used in 'Cindy C.')
was removed when Prince found out that Cat hadn't written
it herself.

I always thought they shoulda left the JM Silk rap in - it would have connected Prince to House which was starting to appear in the charts in 87/88.

No, but it was on an early version of "Crystal Ball/Dream Factory/SOTT".

The Black Album was re-recorded and almost released in 1991/92 with Tony M in the Cat role.
