I don't mean to be too philosophical but...

...with The Rainbow Children & N.E.W.S. albums, experiencing One Nite Alone live in London and Paris, this era has certainly been the most exciting and fulfilling for me.

I'm not exactly sure what that says about Prince, or me, but I tell you, there's nothing quite like falling head over heels in love with the music again. This time around the experience has been so genuinely enjoyable, that what got me hooked in the first place almost seems alien to me now and I can't imagine really wanting to go back there. In that sense, it's no wonder Prince's heart is not genuinely into releasing his older material like Roadhouse Garden, for example. It's literally like he's been dreaming it all up again and the fact that my spirit is very much awake, means I can tune directly in to his senses. Naturally, this coincides with my own life right now and the fact that it's never felt or been better.

This era's most definitely mine but I guess we all must have our own eras, which coincide with our individual journeys and the emotional spaces we're living in during those moments. Does this make any sense to anyone and have you ever felt love like this?!

I haven't experienced such an era, through lack of seeing him live - only once, in April 1992 (!), but one day I'll catch the man live again. Regardless, his latest recordings are a great era in their own right.

I am glad you feel that way, Anji. My incredibly blissful era of Prince will forever be the eighties. That's when I truly discovered him and he made me feel comfortable in my own skin.

The musical reaching is inspiring and he's got good musicians working with him, so I think there's good stuff around the corner; but I am sick of all this overt religious shit. (The last 2 songs on TRC are a fucking embarrasment, and the preaching at concerts - shut up already, damn!)

TRC, ONA...Live! and N.E.W.S are three powerful records and they all breathe the same atmosphere.

The last time he reached this level of creativity was during the period of SOTT leading up to Batman (yes, I like it, so what?)

This is all IMHO of course.

In between there were other exciting periods, with the three albums Come, The Gold Experience and Exodus, but it was never so consistent until now.

I like this era!
But I also love the other eras, for entirely different reasons.

Come to think of it, these three are my favorites though.

What causes a response to certain music but a sympathy for the emotions that are conveyed?

Anji, since you are in such a good place, I wonder if this implies that Prince must have been in a good place when the music was made?

I attended some of the UK and European shows, but I wish I had stayed over long enough for the Bataclan show. What a fabulous bootleg. If you ever think Prince has lost it, listen to Bataclan.

Err, Stymie, is it wise to give anyone else, other than yourself, the power to make you feel comfortable, or not, in your own skin?

Hmm, Jack, is it useful to let anyone else, other than yourself, make you feel embarrassed about what they say or do?

I've never been as swept away by any Prince album, like I have been with N.E.W.S., so I guess that means yes. It's beyond anything I've ever felt before, musically speaking, and it just keeps getting better with every listen.

It's clear Prince's heart was not where he wanted it to be during this era. The music and attitude were addictive because the music was being fuelled by defiance and anger, a torn soul, if you will. Unfortunately, Prince did not allow himself the freedom, nor did he feel he was given the opportunity, to execute his vision successfully.

All three albums are good but, for me, there's something not quite 'there' with the music. I think what's missing was genuine happiness that comes from realising true freedom but then again, I don't think that's ever been there until...

Proves you never were a Prince fan. This is Princes worst musical period, and may become structurally worse, as time progresses past the sword of Damacles. Prince has lost the fire, he has lost the hunger, he has lost the power to sway an audience and a collective musical mind. Prince has given the gold mine over to the buzzards, and his entrails are on display at their quivering beaks. Prince, I must say, is over. He has lost it, much like Micheal Jackson, but at least we knew Michael Jackson was a one note artist, from jump street. Prince had a special place in my heart, because of his musicial uniqueness. Now that splended place has been defiled, by Princes odd need to make profit, but with really bad ideas. Like how do you have a hit with an all instrumental album? Or, why do a live album that doesn't have old stuff from the vault? Why does he write weak dance songs, that he knows only die-hards will listen to? The same dumb rap ideas, even though the hip-hop community largely views Prince as a faggot and wimp.

I give up on some of you. You can have this Prince. As for me and my church, we will find succor elsewhere.

Yea, ICE hates that sucka too.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I guess it's pretty much obvious that I felt this way about Prince music during the purple rain era, I was only 4 yrs old,I don't remember alot back in 84, but I do remember how I how I felt, when watching the video 2 when doves cry. I can't explain it really. It's like when you fall in love for the first time and you have the gut renching feeling inside of you. you feel chills up your spine and little butterflies in your stomach. You really feel as if ur connected with the music and this is the reason why I became a fan. I haven't really felt this way about any new Prince stuff, TRC was aight, but I didn't really listen to it much, ONA was aight, but you just had 2 be in a certain type of mood 2 listen 2 it where as with purple rain or ATWID I could listen 2 it all the time,

I will get N.E.W.S though and hopefully I will be reunited with the same feeling I felt with purple rain/the revolution yrs...

I know Prince won't let me down smile

Maybe wink
