Start with "For You" and work your way forward.

Disagree.

"For You" is awful, and "Prince" is only marginally better.

Start w/ Dirty Mind and work forward, skipping "Batman" and "Graffiti Bridge". If you want 90's stuff, I recommend "Crystal Ball", "Gold" and, if you can find it, "The Undertaker".

The odd thing is, even Prince fans disagree all the time about what's good and what sux. Depends on what style u like. I've always leaned towards the funk/rock stuff and away from the "Do Me Baby"/"Scandalous/Insatiable" style...

That'sthe great thing about Prince. There's bound to be something you like on every CD.

Don't listen to these guys. They all have a limited view of prince as an artist. each with their own comfort zone of what they like. The beauty of prince is that he transcends every genre and confounds peoples xpectations. It's best to go with the flow. Start at the beginning and work your way to the present. There is no "bad" prince just different takes on his abitities. Asking anyone on here which is best is like asking someone what is the best color. The answer tells u about the person answering not about the value of the color.

I think that The Gold Experience, Come and New Power Soul are the best 90s albums.

I can't understand why people continually rate The Truth more than New Power Soul.

Graffiti Bridge, Diamonds & Pearls and prince are very weak albums! They all have a couple of ggod tracks on but as a whole, you'll be reaching for the skip button on your remote quite frequently!

The one clear bit of information that can be gathered from all the above is that its worth your while buying everything, because for every album he's released theres some who dislike it,some who like it, in other words theres good stuff to be found on ALL HIS ALBUMs, and I'm truly of the belief that even Prince's worst cuts have a lot of musical merit within them .

I just got Chaos and Disorder and I don't get why people bash that album, i love it.

I'll second that, if u like PRINCE's rock edge, then "CHAOS & DISORDER" has some his best guitar playing of any of his studio albums.

Then, just fill in those gaps, get "COME", get "The GOLD Experience".

"CRYSTAL BALL", "THE RAINBOW CHILDREN" and "ONE NITE ALONE - LIVE!" might be a bit too heavy 4 casual Prince fans, but once u get in2 them, u'll never wanna leave...

I would probably start with Symbol, The Gold Experience and The Rainbow Children. Once you've absorbed those, move onto the more obscure stuff like Come, Crystal Ball, The Truth, One Nite Alone, etc. But get NEWS now! biggrin

I couldn't agree more! Gold, TRC, Come, Crystal Ball. Chaos and Disorder is more rocky album, if you like that sort of thing. guitar

The Girl 6 OST is interesting album if you can see it anywhere cheap.

And ONA Live is a must. music

90's stuff eh? buy them all, then watch as they all collect dust except for 'The Truth' and 'The Gold Experience'.

Though there is the odd great song on each album.
