I was there. It was long and boring. The War was actually like 20-30 minutes longer then what you heard on tape and most of it was Prince playing around offstage. Most of the time it was just the loop with various bandmembers making an occasional noise on top. I bet at least half of the crowd left in the middle of the song as it was just so boring and nothing was really happening.
I thought about leaving myself, but at that time I would have never left a Prince show early. The show that night didn't start until late so it was seriously like 7:00 a.m. until it ended. The problem was I had a basketball tournament at like 9:00 a.m. so I didn't get the nap I had been hoping to get. I remember the rest of the show kicked ass and I wasn't really that thrilled about The War. Other people agreed as after the show I remember hearing a lot of people comment about how great the show had been until the last song. Anyway I kind of like the edited version of the song now.

I was there as well...lovemachine's account is pin-point accurate!! It was boring. I haven't heard the edited verison, but I'm sure a much more condensed version may be more interesting. I too was at a stage where I would never leave a PP performance until I knew it was over...so I stayed. Man...I miss those days...Prince, bring them back!!!

Sigh...y'all are some lucky muthafuckas! No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.
