Oh hell, you mofos take everything so damn seriously, why not enjoy the thread already? Damn rolleyes

Anyway, I've alwaysed thought that "We Can Work It Out" sounds like "Rock With You" but then again:

Songs that Prince should cover:

1.Whatizupwitchu(I've alwaysed thought it sounds like a Graffiti Bridge outtake).
2.Dirty Diana
3.Beat It
4.Superfly Sister(which sounds like a Prince song 2 me)
5.Shake Your Body Down 2 The Ground

Songs that MJ should cover:

1.Turn It Up
2.Kiss(MJ can do this justice since he love him some JB)
3.Would U Love 2 Love Me
4.Make It Through The Storm
5.When 2 R In Love(With Saideah Garret "sp?")

"Human Nature" on acoustic guitar or piano - that is if Prince HAD to cover one.

I hope he doesn't.

ELlie...i love your suggestion. MJ doing P control would
kill me! (or mJ doing EROtic City!)

ok...yep i know p refused to do BAD with MJ (good career move by p that time) and probably wouldn't do Mj tunes
now.

but check back into p's history-when he played in grand
central with andre...& chazz smith...they said they did
J5 tunes! (could you hear prince doing LOve you save or
I want You Back?)

the song i think prince would kill is "the way you make me
feel." that would sound totally different in his hands!

youngca...yep people will always compare these two but
as for me i like them both-(with a nod toward p cuz he's
a musician) but they're NOt alike at all.

the only thing they share is the same age. (45)

Why do people assume that MJ is not a musician? Because he doesn't play instruments on stage? Because he didn't write every single song he's ever sang? I don't think it's fair to discredit him in as a musician or an artist. It's not his fault thatthe media has labeled him as a one-trick pony (with Thriller and the moonwalk.) He may not be as prolific as Prince or others, but he has written and composed (and produced) some of the greatest tunes of the past 25 years. Go back and listen to the stuff he did with the Jacksons, as well as his post-Bad work. He obviously has a lot of musical knowledge, and actually plays several instruments. I wouldn't put him up against any great guitar players, but the man is far more musically inclined than people give him credit for.

Back on the subject, I agree that Prince could tear up "The Way You Make Me Feel." Personally, I would love to hear MJ do "Erotic City" or even "Sexy MF." LOL!

hmmm..personally...
I'm not doggin' him out for not being a musician. but the plain fact is he can't play any instruments. i've read a bit
on him and what he does is sing all of his parts to somebody
who can play or arrange (ala quincy jones) I remember an
interview with him where he mentioned how he wrote Muscles
for Diana. He sung the parts and melodies into a tape
recorder and Voila that's how he does it!

i can't speak for what other folk say about him not playing
an instrument my view isn't to DOG him for this. he's done
pretty good for a guy that uses his ear to write his
tunes. But being a musician and knowing how hard it is to
learn how to play any instrument...i will always chose
prince over Mj just cuz he does everything well.
(dance,sing,play a lot of instruments ,arrange...etc etc..)

bsides i hate comparing them. like i said they're different
musical animals. whom i dig a lot.
(they don't like one another...which is their right!)

and I'm absolutely 100% sure i saw Mike take over the keyboards for 10 seconds or so from Greg Philinganes during the encore on the Bad Tour @ Wembley stadium.

Or maybe i was dreaming when i wrote this :Confuse:

nah, i've seen him play.

yes he plays instruments. you may not see him playing them. and he doesnt make it obvious, hes famous for his voice and dancing, not instrument playing. but he can play the guitar, drums and piano. plus he produces a lot of his songs. you cant be in the industry, be that big, have such good songs and know nothing about music at all.

want more proof? there is a pepsi add where he is playing the piano for starters.

No one should have a problem with Prince doing a MJ song since he didn't write alot of them. I wouldn't mind hearing Prince sing "You are not alone". On the flipside, I would probably enjoy MJ doing "Sexy Motherfucker" That would really be something to hear or "When 2R in love".

wow...then the stuff i've read on him not playing anything
are lies! which is funny! but like i said i wasn't putting him down b4. i am an MJ fan. i'm wondering if over the years
he's picked up these skills. even Quincy J had mentioned
MJ not really playing instruments in previous material i've
read! anyway Good for MJ.

one thing i do know-his brothers jermaine and tito were
pretty good musicians.

here's a prince song MJ could try:
how come you don't call me anymore. (hmmm it would be
wild!)

TO THOSE WHO SAY THAT PRINCE WOULD NEVER COVER JACKO...

He's already done so. Billie Jean has been performed by Prince at least a couple of times live in concert.

Okay...a little off topic...but am I the only one who does not think the song Billie Jean is all that extraordinary?

It had a good video. It got "groundbreaking" airplay on MTV, but the song itself? I just don't think it's all that great.

It's the bassline. Me and a couple of bandmates were jamming on Saturday. Out of no where our bass player starts that bassline. The rest of the guys started smiling and following his lead. Man that was a moment.

its a nice tune. but charp57 is dead on. its the killer
bass line (and MJ great video) that makes it what it
turned out to be. if there was no video would it have become as "famous"?

What are you smoking? smile

"Billie Jean" is a classic pop song. It's amazing.Back in '83,you didn't hear anything else like it on the radio. That pulsing beat, that unforgettable bassline,Michael's powerful vocals, the dramatic, paranoid lyrics, and the haunting arrangemnent makes this a strong contender for best pop song of the 80s,imo.Yes,the excellent video hepled to make it a huge smash, but the song itself is stunning on it's own.
