I actually purchased this in the US at a Tower records. You might be able to order this online at towerrecords.com ...that's if you still need it.

Depsite the overall campiness, his somewhat tacky costumes, the long-ass drawn out conversation with God, the spilt-screen for when doves cry, and Wendy & Lisa's horrible backing vocals, I'd still have to say "Purple Rain Live" [This message was edited Fri Aug 22 21:56:45 PDT 2003 by lovebizzare] ~KiKi

Definitely Purple Rain Live because:
1. The Irresistable Bitch/Posessed jam; I almost lost it when I heard that! (Gimme 17 y'all!!! Unnnh!) 2. The Baby I'm A Star Encore with Sheila, Sheila's Band, an Apollonia 3. It's a LIVE recording. SOTT had studio overdubs on it (at least U got the look, and a lot of the vocals and horns sound overdubbed). I like SOTT for Sheila and Boni. If only Sheila's opening set from Purple Rain was captured on video. Does anyone know if that even exists???

SOTT. It has just aged so much better. Much of PRL seems so cheesy now. And I just plain like the music and the band better that is showcased on SOTT.

The film quality on SOTT is so freaking beautiful, and it's nice how they trimmed out stuff like costume changes. But once a few people pointed out to me that alot of those tracks were overdubs, it bothers me alot nowdays when I watch his lips move over some of those performances LOL. How about that guitar solo on ICNTTPOYM?
Purple Rain has all the energy that got me so excited about Prince, but there's alot of awkward moments, especially during costume changes, that I always have to fastforward over. The worst part is that glowing circle of light with that annoying marching drum beat that seems to go on FOREVER. He kinda screwed up When Doves Cry by speeding it up like that. But the rest of the performance makes up for it all and then some. Wendy throwing red flowers out to the crowd under a blanket of red light while the opening of Little Red Corvette is playing is amazing. The spaced out and clueless look on Appolonia's face while she's playing tambourine to Baby Im A Star has me in tears everytime. [This message was edited Sun Aug 24 14:36:53 PDT 2003 by Tom]

you mean the part where mark and wendy pretend to makeout? The spaced out and clueless look on Appolonia's face while she's playing tambourine to Baby Im A Star has me in tears everytime.

I didn't really like PRL video, well some pre4mances are cool(I.E. Irrisitibal Bitch/Possessed, HCUDCMAM, Lets Pretend, Do Me Baby and couple o' others).
SOTT is mo' energic and the vibe is a bit mo' spontanious, plus its mo' mature than PRL video. Boni, Sheila & Cat(CrazySexyCool) were the best about that video, and hey its def JAZZIER so there u go . I wish I could see LoveSexy, I haven't seen none of the pre4mances!

They are both very cool... but I would have to pick... Purple Rain Live... Purely because of sentimental reasons... Awww... great great music and atmosphere...

SOTT isn't as overdubbed as you might think.
When the lip-synching goes off a bit, it's because you're watching a lot of footage that was re-recorded at Paisley Park with Prince and the band miming to the live soundtrack. What you hear is about 90% 'as it happend'. What you see is only about 30% live.

I don't care what's real and what's fake, if something is faked, than the whole is fake! I don't mean to say it's bad, but it does irritate. Purple Rain is for real!!

AMEN! Nowadays,I cringe whenever I watch the 'Purple Rain' Live video. What looked so daring in 1985 now looks plain silly...lol...the 'SOTT' video,on the other hand, still looks and sounds great.Prince had the best band of his career and his live performances were incredible.

Can't stand the lip-synching on SOTT. 'Hot Thing' ruined as is 'Beautiful night'. Stupid video for U Got The Look just stuck there, AND you're only getting half a show.
Give me the Syracuse PR show any day!

If you guys had never known that Prince was lip-syncing in 'SOTT',it wouldn't even bother you one bit.The performances look like the real thing to me.That concert film is superb!

"Prince & The Revolution Live" makes me cringe.
All the prancing about and "drama" (e.g. "God") makes me ill. And don't get me started on his pet furry octopus... Let's just pretend it didn't happen.

SOTT by a mile. I just wish he left "U Got the Look" off the video.

Agreed.I may be in the minority, but I was kinda disappointed with the whole 'Purple Rain' tour.It just didn't live up to the excitement of the film, imo. There were too many odd distractions and gimmicks. It was as if,on this tour,Prince was just celebrating his new superstardom. The persona became the main focus. The 'SOTT' shows feel much more wholesome and sincere. ... [This message was edited Mon Aug 25 5:06:17 PDT 2003 by DavidEye]
