Well, after the third spin and an intense listening session, I take back anything negative I have said about this album - truly wonderful, it really opened up its soul to me last night!
Not only that, 4 friends of mine were round - one who is a musician and acknowledges Prince's genius, but isn't really a fan (buys occasional albums that he hears round mine and likes), 1 who thinks Prince is great, but only casually knows his music and 2 who know who Prince is, but didn't know he was still producing music. I didn't tell any of them who it was until half-way through East - none of them could believe it was Prince (bar the musician!) and all were totally floored by the album - I mean, I really have not seen this level of reaction from people over a Prince album in bloody years!!! All 4 said they would be buying it, today! Incredible! Anyway, right to the front, leaping out of my speakers, was all the experimentation and detail that I had been missing on the first 2 listens - but, its been a stressful week and, sometime, I think that can really affect how you hear things. Safe to say, I was blown away last night, though equally because I couldn't believe the stuff I had not heard previously! There really are some magical moments on this disc, but this is one sublime album and, for many, it is going to take some time before it really hits! Obviously, there are some that it is just no going to click with - but that's ok, its very different to what you are used to with Prince and that may be too much for some. But, for those that might be unsure, try and get to hear it on the best system you can and lie back, let go, and let NEWS take you in the directions it promises! ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I bought mine today & I love it! There's alittle
bit of everything for everyone. It's funky. It's jazzy. It's moody & experimental. It's abstract. It's a trip into Prince's head at the moment. He doesn't want vocals to get in the way on this recording. He wants us to kick back & FEEL this new music. Prince will not let his voice go to waste. There will be vocals on future CD's. For now take a trip into Prince's instrumental abstract world. Pop in the CD, close your eyes & fly! (DRUGS ARE NOT NEEDED)

I am amazed by this album. I played it for a few people since I got it (non-prince fans) and they were all completely blown away. EAST!! AAAH! Chili Sauce.

Yes News has my thumbs up!
afte a relatively slow start with North (wich features a magnificint guitar solo and and a supurb piano near the end), the cd kicks ass with East only to turn in2 West and SOuth. Man this CD is gonna really get some airing over here Now what is next..?? Damn those edits to hell [This message was edited Thu Aug 7 4:07:06 PDT 2003 by starbuck] "Time is a train, makes the future the past"
