anji, i am glad to read that you enjoy it so much. your story reminds me of my own. first it wasn`t there, then somebody from the staff said he had seen it. only thing is, for me it was cheaper, and i only had to wait 5min because that`s how far the store is from my house. i had a fantastic time last night. i really, really dig this album. i like the grooves, the solos, the sound and the concept. yeah, you got that right : i like it. actually i love it. hopefully there will be at least some people who dig it as much as i do. so, have some more fun anji - and turn the music up. Tony, I am having so much fun! Jestyr is gonna go crazy when he hears this!! This is fucking soul music to the core, Prince has completely got me with these grooves. I haven't felt like this with music, ever!

I'm glad you're so happy! I can't wait to get my copy...everyone here in NC is acting like they've never heard of the guy. They don't even think it'll be here until the end of August, beginning of September. But judging by your reaction, I'll be lovin' it when I finally do get my hands on a copy.

I actually think the CD is fantastic. It's not as crazy wild as I was hoping but it's tight as hell and very solid. Excellent music. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

*** Exactly. West is incredible. East is something else ... When I saw reviews of the album by 'fans' on-line I thought they were listening to a different record.

I haven't felt like this with music, ever! Whew. Finally!!! I have been waiting as anxiously for YOU and Tony to nab your copies as I was to receive MINE. Of course mine showed up in my mailbox back on July 5th, so I've had it for quite a while I just knew you would love it and I'm so thrilled to hear your reaction. Kind've makes me experience my first listen all over again. I don't know how to explain the connection, but I get a 'Purple Rain' vibe from this project. I know most people who read this are scratching their heads right now (maybe even you, too), but the best I can explain that impression is to say that it feels like this the most collaborative he has been in a long time and I think that was also true during the Purple Rain sessions. Other musicians seem to give him a need to push his musical envelope a bit more. I think creative competition is a great motivator for him and I can hear its effect on the vibe in this wonderful project. Keep listening; it actually grew more precious to me with subsequent spins.

Hehe - well, I DO have an awesome system (like £10,000 worth of proper hi-fi) so, as you might imagine, NEWS sounds absolutely amazing! The production is first rate, just loving the way that Blackwells toms resonate and punctuate - especially in East and, well, the man's tapping throught that tune is just completely off the hook.
Really enjoying it, it is very classy, but I am just slightly disappointed that it does not tread any new musical ground. Yes, its quite fresh for Prince, and I love that he is trying to communicate without any lyrics, but there is not one single innovative idea on the album - that is its Achilles heel. Musicianship, composition, production - all first rate, just sadly lacking in innovation and invention. Still, a great record and I suspect that this is just a little stepping stone for the next big Prince release. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Glad to see you're enjoying it, Mindflux. I gotta say, to my mind, Prince has always had trouble translating his live sound, which is his true self, successfully onto record. That's why N.E.W.S has got me so excited, and to think it's all in the music, the grooves, the layers. I know I'm gonna be sensing Prince's true soul 'living' within the nuances of this record every time I play it and that is an extremely exciting prospect! Okay, I'll stop now.
