1,000 Hugs and Kisses

I DJ at an after work happy hour called martini monday's.
Every now and then I spin an unrleased or some new prince cuts to see the response. Last night was unbelievable. I played 1,000 Hugs and Kisses, and the response was incredible. Easily 75 to 100 people asked about the song. When I told them it was Prince and Nona Gaye they couldn't believe it. Everyone wanted a copy. One person who claimed to be a Prince fan said it had to be the best piece of work he heard from Prince in a decade. I'm almost inclined to agree. That song is so hot.
Just wanted to share my experience from last night.

You are correct 200%. That song is sooo cool and catchy.
I love it.

If Prince were still with WB, he would still be able to comprise an album of good tunes. I'm absolutely sure of it!

good work Taurus!

Exactly which choice Prince cuts do you have in mind, Josh?

I think 'A 1.000 Hugs And Kisses' is way underrated and a fine example of a lost gem. The sound quality is also very high, clear and crisp.

For such an apparently wonky era there still was no shortage of high quality unreleased songs one can go back to and actually enjoy listening to. This is just one of them.

I guess this is why for me it's so frustrating being a Prince fan sometimes. To see all these people's heads boppin' and fingers snapppin' drinking martini's as this song was blaring through the speakers. Noone even knew this song even existed!

The massess thinks he sucked after Purple Rain, but we all know different. I mean, if you guys could have seen the expresions on people's faces when I told them it was Prince... I felt like saying, "since ya'll like this so much, take a listen to another one!"
I wanted to turn the rest of the night into an all night Princefest, and spin nothing but Prince for the rest of evening.

cool tune didnt realise it was Nona singing on it though
i always thought it was an emancipation outtake.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

easily one of his best, has that classy Dionne Warwick soul feel, gorgeous horn line as well. A prime example of why Prince perhaps could use an editor to assist in track selection!.

Nah, it's usually a very laid back urban crowd. Upper 20's - mid 30's crowd The corporate crew trying to unwind after work. Rebirth is probably a little to funky for them. Unreleased/New stuff I can remember playing off the top of my head.

Muse 2 the pharoh - suprisingly several have requested this more than once

Dreaming about u - some response

Ths sun, moon, and stars - most liked it until the reggae breakdown

When the lights go down - GREAT response. I usually play this every week now.

Hypnoparadise - Not a lot of response
Vavavoom - no response
Beautiful Strange - no response
Splash - no response

Any suggestions. Remember, i can't get too funky.

"It's About That Walk" is a throwback gem. Earth Wind and Fire like horns, funny lyrics (awesome falsetto), and it swings like it was arranged by Quincy Jones (I'm sure it wasn't). Very underrated. Excellent song to kick off a weekend

I agree.I have had similar experiences with that song.I like making mixed cd's for people and I always sneak some Prince in on 'em.I have used that song before and everybody's asking what album is it on and whhen did it come out?I have had these experiences with "the one","hallucination rain","come on","shoo bed oo","i love u,but don't...",and several other outtakes.

This is why I know if he really focused on making a superior collection and allow some marketers to do their jobs ,without resistance,he could have hits.It just can't be done halfway like he has been doing recently. He just can't toy with the idea an tease the system. He would actually have to play the game a bit.I just don't know if he can do that, though.part of me doesn't blame him.but,I think his legacy suffers.
