Possessed book - it ain't THAT bad!. It sjust that damn title i hate!.

Well after whining on about the cons of writing such a critical book i got myself a copy to see what all the fuss was about. Tobe honest it is more of a sad reflection in Alexs eyes and you get the feeling that Alex is still rooting for Prince. His sumation of Prince is basically that Prince is a very horny, talented musician who treats people who love him like shit, desperatly needs an editor for his music, is crap at business, is a spoilt brat and generally a control freak. He dabled with drugs , nicks the odd riff/song and has surrounded himself with a bunch of thickies!!.
Really there's no great surprise , if any of that is then you must have been living in denial!, there's some great insights from his management / warners execs that serve more to add meat to the bone and not really enlighten.
Overall well worth a read and not the devestating book of revelations that i was expecting. At the end of the day its just the authors opinion, i for one will always support Prince and I happen to love his music since TRC. Also we need to give Prince more props for trying to change both as a person and musically, which also Alex does to an extent.

I came to the same conclusion, javed. The book really isn't as bad as I expected (from reading the comments posted here).Alex seems to be a real fan who is just a little disappointed with the way things have turned out for Prince. But,it's obvious that Alex is still rooting for Prince. The book has alot of interesting details and quotes from insiders and band members.

The title is accurate.

He rose to fame, then he declined.

His art also rose and declined.

Deal with it.

My main problems with the book were that Alex Hahn's writing just isn't very good, the print size was way too small, and the whole thing with Uptown sharing information with him seemed a shade shady for some reason.

Why shady? They let it be known that reseach materials Uptown had were accessed by Alex.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Good job Alex. You've made people talk about a guy who most people stopped paying attention to years ago.

To give you an example of this, a friend of mine and I were in a bookstore and he saw the book. He looked at me and asked if I was still a fan. I told him yes. He then said that Prince should release an album to capitalize on this book. I told him that he has been putting at least an album a year for years. He was shocked. People don't care about Prince too much right now. That can change, but for someone to take the time to write a fairly well researched book deserves our attention. For better or worse, that is probably the most that will be written about the man this year.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I think it's shady, partially because a lot of that information had already been published by Uptown, and partially because it seems curious to me that the materials they DIDN'T publish was pretty juicy...why wouldn't they use it themselves? It just seems weird to me, that's all.

My understanding of that was that Uptown wanted to stay away from Prince's personal life for the main part with Days Of Wild.

And DMSR was only upto 1987, so it didn't all the stuff after that, much of which was of most interest/ critque by fans since it hadn't been published before.

It can't all be shady...my worked at the hospital where he checked himself in back in like 1999 or so. I know that's legit.
