In sports,there are times when athletes "take plays off" nd don't really put their best effort forth,This can be because they are arrogant phux or maybe they are hurt or just know they have to try and conserve energy for an upcoing situation or because they are bored and don't care.And this doesn't just apply to the sports world.

Honestly,can't you say that you remember a time at work or at school or even in a relationship,where you didn't really try?You thought later that you really could have done better?


Well, there was a time when I thought that Prince was beyond human in his abilities and desire to be the best.I still think that he is incredible,etc.,but I sense a certain blase' attitude ,in some effors.

Admittedly,I was younge when I thought he was beyond human weakness and very naiive and unrealistic.However,I still think that ,during the '80's,he NEVER "took plays off".Now,I think that he does.I think he has lost a lot of fire.And,really,it's to be expected.He IS older.Nothing can last forever.He has been incredibly fertile.Maybe,the most fertile artist ever.I still think he is capable of blowing us away ,if he really wants to.he's gotta dig deep and REALLY care,though.

For a minute,think about '82 and '83...all that music!!Really consider all that he wrote and recorded during that period.Then consider all that came before and after.No words can do justice.

Now,I think he isn't sure what to do and the only real place he shines anymore is in concert.I like his recordings still,but they cannot live up to certain other things,ya' know?On stage is where he KNOWS what he wants an doesn't just chill.He wants to PROVE his badness ,and he does.


Maybe,that's why he seems to "take plays off";it's the uncertainty of direction.The insecurity seeps in.The dwellng on wha is considered ridiculous and what is hip ,for a middle aged rocker.


See,that makes some sense to me.He is isolated and there are no honest voices around.He has done things ,in the past,that noone can match on their best day.That's scary.That can be paralyzing.

Does anybody kno what Randy Moss' excuse might be?

I agree with practically everything you said, I think it's a good observation.

I think it must be difficult for a musician/pop artist like Prince who has a career in recording for so long.

What is there left to do that you actually WANT to do?
What is the point in putting out another studio album?

When you've reached a certain plateau, where do you go next, and WHY?

When your young things like money, competition, ambition drive you, but when you have achieved everything you initially set out to do, where do you go next?

So although I don't particularly like N.E.W.S. - I'm glad he's searching for something different to do.

I think the period after Emancipation to Rave/High was just the most dire I've seen as a fan.

I'm glad he moved on with TRC - I dunno what his motivation was with TRC, I guess it was his religion, so JW gave him a little fire to create something different maybe.

Thanks.I just think it would really do him good to get away from his "normal" surroundings and comfort settings.He may even need to get away from music for a period.Just live life and get away from the enormity of the PRINCE jive and reputation.Maybe,be a longshoreman for a year or a cashier at Target.Just leave the pressure and the vacuum.

I saw a special on the life of Quincy Jones.He spoke of the time he almost lost it from working too much on music.So, he went away to Bimini,I think.He said it reinvigorated him and saved his life and his music.He said that while he was away he didn't think about music.


Prince should leave us for a year or two.Then he could come back and rip it up!
