Support PRINCE- think str8 Folks-
I'm what they would call a Prince naysayer in some respects. The Crystal ball release, ticket prices, the Jehovah Witness recruiting tabacle at the Rainbow Children celebration...I call them how I see them, & like alot of people have been frustrated for the last 6 years due to the fact: Prince has been chasing commercial success & sacraficing his true fans to do it. But... In the last year things- I think have turned around. I think Prince has actually been on the ball. NPGMC perks (complaing about distribution & things like is your excitement so chill)I completely support Prince's "CAUSE". These people who are complaing they spent $20 bucks on a CD & who cannot see the investment of returning the CD to support the "CAUSE" are out of there minds. This is "CAUSE" is a "CAUSE" in support of the arts & artists. If WEA was doing something unlawful & unethical Prince's situation with them should be re-evaluated. Lets think str8 guys, lets not be smug about we bought, lets support Prince, see where this goes. Nero

You honestly can't see why we have a problem supporting this so-called "cause?"
"Then you my friend are a damn fool...a damn fool." First off, I paid for these and am not in the habit of giving away shit to millionaires. Second, WB or WEA or who-the-fuck-ever did this over TEN YEARS AGO...why has it taken so long for Prince to bitch about it? I'm issuing my own statute of limitations on him... And last...supporting this cause won't lead to jack shit...just like all of Prince's other "causes." Hopefully you will come back to the land of the naysayers quickly...

I'm with neronava on this one. It's all take take take around here. I'm not going to send anything, but the concept doesn't disgust me. If a friend of mine asked for a CD of mine would I dare tell him 'no way, I paid for that?'. Such possiveness is an ugly ugly trait. Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

i thought i was supporting him by paying $25 to join his music club. i thought i was supporting him by buying n.e.w.s and ona live 3cd set... i thought i was supporting him by purchasing everything he's ever put out, as well as going to every concert that he's been close to.
i guess that's just not enough.

It's okay to give your friend a CD of yours. If he's you're friend then he'll do personal favors for you, or help you in a fist fight, correct? Will Prince do that for you? Prince is no friend to anyone here. We do business with him and that's all. He records music, we buy it. And that's as far as the relationship goes. When's the last time he did something for you that didn't include you handing him money in exchange for it? A request is a request, we don't have to like it, we don't have to fulfil it. There's definitely no need to be upset by it. Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

When's the last time he did something for you that didn't include you handing him money in exchange for it? Exactly. The reason why I buy Prince's music, is I find the service to be worth the money. I buy all of his music without question for two reasons: 1) Even his worst releases have had something that I found worth listening to; and 2) Financial support from his lesser releases will allow him to make more releases which have the potential to be better. I would buy any legitimate release from any company because I want the product, not because Prince is my "pal". Hell, if he was, I would just give him a few bucks whenever he needed it. But his music is a business. I shop at Wal-Mart, or Amazon.com, or the Gap, or whatever so that I can purchase the product. The same applies with Prince's music. I admire it, respect it, love it, but that's as far as my relationship goes with Prince. However, I am not upset that he posted this request, it has no reason to upset me. I can just say no. I do however think it is a very stupid request, and as such I laugh at it. Let me demonstrate: 1. Ha 2. Ha 3. Ha Plain and simple. I support Prince by buying his products, not returning them. And he doesn't need these things as evidence for some lawsuit. He can buy them at a dozen places online, not including E-bay. I know he has the money to do it too. Firstly, Xpectation was still a business move. Prince knew that people were unhappy with year 2, and if he ever hoped to reclaim some business in year 3, he needed to attempt to mend the relationships. He did this by firstly offering Xpectation, and secondly, by making the club 75% cheaper and offering no promises. Secondly, why is it that whenever people say something that points out a stupidity of Prince, they are instantly labelled as nay-sayers. Look, I love Prince, and have had no major complaints with any of his music, but his recent behaviour has been ridiculous. Most people on the org would agree with me on this. And, most people are able to separate the music from the man. It's not as if we all hate his music, it's that we're all fed up with his behaviour. And I think it's fair of us to feel the way we feel. We agreed to it and thats it? Didn't Prince sign a contract with WB? Didn't he agree to that as well? If WB really did such a blatant violation of their contract, he would be in and out of court in 5 min, leaving with his masters. Somewhere in the paperwork, it appears prince carelessly signed away the rights to his music.

Why doing something illegal when you can exploit an artist completely official and legal? And why did Prince not protest about this until late 1999 (all these CD-singles were already listed on the previous Prince web site (love4oneanother.com) - as I recall on a page called The Ways Of The Pharaoh...) and now asks our help? If it was really illegal recordings he should have protested when he signed a new contract in 1991/1992. But guess what...he probably got paid really well for these 'unapproved' releases.

And each time he signed on the dotted line, he understood that WB had ownership of his masters, so there was no sneaky ploy hidden in there. If Prince later on decided he wasn't happy with the agreement, well then too fucking bad, he willingly signed the deal. He made himself look like such an asshole, as always.
