Hi, RELATIVELY new to posting on the Org,but in my experiences with lurking here, the only consistent point of agreement, in relation to Prince's decisions is that, for better or for worse, they are INconsistant. The recent much dabated email is just another symptom of this. But after I laughed at it for a while, it reminded me why I got into the man in the first place.
I saw Purple Rain on Channel 4 (uk), and it was bookended with a guy and a girl (can't remember who, c4 'youth presenters' no doubt) discussing it. HE hated the film, SHE loved it. When they were signing off (I think this was probably its UK TV debut) they argued for ages over the merits of the film, and its soundtrack. He went on to take the piss out of UTCM. She agreed it sucked, but pointed out that when you aim as high as Prince, and really hang it out in the wind; sooner or later you will fuck up. But ended by saying that they are the risks you take if you are a genius.

Fan ever since.

If there's any reason anyone is getting screwed out of their membership, it's because of people like you. And once again, if the club closes tomorrow and keeps your $25 you'd be the first to blame Prince behind something you should have expected and ignored in the first place. Hell, I wasn't pleased with the presentation of the email, but it wasn't and still isn't that big of a deal. Instead of a revalation about Prince, I got one about his so-called "fans". So if revolting against you gives me peace of mind, that's what I'll do.

I would need to have some valid explanation before I would even think of sending him anything, IMHO. So it's reasonable that people are questioning this email, I don't get why so many people are acting like he's completely gone off on his rocker for the first time, like he was so perfect before, people should just except it by now. These people (who are hardcore enough to even pay money for a club of an artist who hasn't had a real commercial hit in over a decade) should know what they're getting into and who they're dealing with.
Disagree, don't send him your stuff, and get on with life.
