Kudos Matthew - great minds think alike! hug

posted this 2day on the org homepage on the MTV thread:

...am I the only one 2 think it's kinda ironic that Prince battled 2 free himself from a contract where He (supposedly) felt stifled by being unable 2 release His music as often as He would have liked? Then goes and starts up 'NPG' as a way 2 get this (supposed) mass of stuff He's brimming over with glee 2 release - and suddenly...instead of all these hot jams exploding out of the label...
...now it just LIMPS out?

I'm sorry. I've never understood "fans" who think that they are "owed" something. Part of what intrigues me about P is following his weird-ass career-moves and style-changes. Hell, why don't u write him off 4 releasing ATWIAD after PR, or firing the Revolution 2 make SOTT?
I do believe that P makes artistic decisions as he sees fit. I think some of them are designed to please (sometimes, fans, sometimes club members, sometimes Orgmembers, somnetimes the industry, sometimes the press, sometimes Larry), but others r not. The fun is in following what happens, and appreciating all the gr8 stuff, and ignoring what u don't like. If there's 2 much of the latter, then stop, and get interested in some1 else (I suggest Radiohead wink ).

I started a thread a while back about how ORGers would react if Internet existed when SOTT was released. I'm convinced there'd b lots of whining and dissing.

I like the Org, coz I like the discussion. And it's cool 4 there 2 b ppl who think this way and ppl who disagree, but one thing to consider 4 ppl like Matt:
Which is more egotistical, to be an artist trying to produce something extraordinary without pissing off too many along the way, or to be one of the millions of fans who thinks that everything the artist does should follow your particular view of the way things should be done? In other words, mayb u r the one who should try some humility!

Finally, if P wasn't indiosyncratic and wierd would we even b here?

Life is short and Prince has made his contribution to mine thru his music, and I would like to THANK HIM.

Amen.

Prince's career moves can be weird (to say the least), but the MUSIC: that's what it's all about! I'm having wonderful listening moments with NEWS, and I couldn't care less about this e-mail I received from the club.
JW, WB, name change, "help the cause", jerkoff , I just don't give a f.
Thanks for the music, Prince.

You know you got it right Matt. I feel the same way. I have posted almost the same comments a few times. I think a lot of people have.

BUT THERE'S ONE PROBLEM YOU PEOPLE CAN'T SEEM TO GRASP...

Prince does NOT care about anyone. All he cares about is Prince. The whole "Slave" thing written on his cheek for years. Poor goo, didn't get what he wanted. Do you notice when something goes wrong with Prince, it's NEVER Prince's fault? It's Wendy & Lisa's fault, WB's fault, it's Clives' fault, it's radio's fault. Blah, blah, blah, blah. I'm sick of it.

Now the ONLY people he's got left is his fans. And he want's us to give up our HARD-EARNED collectables and BOOTLEGS? Remember the comment on his website? Let me remind you. I wrote about this when it came out too.

"Imagine a 12 disc set of Prince- A Celebration. Oh that's right you bought the bootleg..."

I'm paraphrasing here, but that's what it said.

Yes Prince I did buy the boot, and you know what? Yours NEVER CAME OUT!!!

THAT'S WHY WE BUY OR DOWNLOAD THE BOOTS, WE ALWAYS HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL. UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT!!!

Don't get me wrong. I ALWAYS purchase your officially released material. IF I can download the bootleg from the Hub, or Kazaa, you better believe I will. I don't mind ripping them off.

I mean if your so pissed about bootlegs, why don't you take down Sabotage??? I know why, because YOU KNOW that they can deliver a great looking package faster, better, and more reliable the NPG can!!! Plus they keep your FANS interested in you. If all of us had to wait this long for something from you and all we got was this SUBPAR jam material called N.E.W.S., you would not have the fans you do now.

You NEED to start listening Prince...But you won't. Because I'm sure that if we leave, it will be OUR fault, not YOURS...

Peace!

Dear Matthew,

What a wonderfully resonant letter. I know you've gotten a bit of flack for your thoughts. Just know that there are several people who feel your pain on this matter! It's certainly not our right as Prince admirers to expect anything of him, except respect.

I don't thin he was saying that everything Prince does should conform to his taste, I believe the point was that he should stop acting like a tosser. Stop Preaching, Stop Asking For Music Back, Stop Moaning and treat fans with a little respect. Not everything he does can please all the fans, but he can try and behave in a way that at least shows he appreciates us and doesn't think we are all mugs.
