New Power Soul: Prince's funkiest album of the 90's!!!

I've just revisited NPS and that album (which I found plastic and crappy when released) contains a hell of a lot FUNKY JAMS! Maybe not that much innovative, structured songs, but good grooves to feed yo booty on the dancefloor!

So I created this thread for the rehabilitation of NPS. Sign here if you agree:

No, that would be "Emancipation" in my humble opinion...

Aside from the nail on the chalkboard cover of Bonnie's I Can't Make You Love Me I can listen to Emancipation. NPS has Come On and the One that I jam two but the rest of it just makes me sad to listen to.

This is album has that delayed effect. Lightweights who dont really know how to listen to music dismissed it out of the box. Those of us who truly appreciate good funk recognize that this is a special Prince project that was not meant for the mainstream low brow hip hop radio MTV audience. Its grown folks funk that manifests itself with deep grooves, REAL horns, and good writing.

Well, I say Exodus is one funky album too! The quality of the songs is better on Exodus, but NPS is fun nevertheless...

... whereas heavyweights who listened to it with a real understanding of music recognised it for the patchy and cliche ridden effort it was. Delayed effect - yes: having vomited the first time they heard this album, many revisited that same experience all over again when upon reading the half-ignorant, half-arrogant joke above.

I love Emancipation. I think The Vault is cool, too. Rave has its moments. C&D has Dinner With Delores.

I totally agree!

This CD, peoples...is FUNKY!
That's...get yo ass-on-the danceflo FUN-KAY

Allow me to break it down...

1. NewPowerSoul- Very FUNKY
2. Mad Sex- Slow groove FUNKY
3. Until U're In My Arms Again- If the rumors are true
that P wrote this for his child, it would be the most
heartwrenching song ever....it holds it's own among his
slow jams.
4. When U Love Somebody- This is the one, it, along with
Come On, is the CUT on this CD.
5. Shoo-Bed-Ooh- Can't stand the chorus, but the rest of
the song is stellar, chorus ruins it for me.
6. Push It Up- Party Fave...nod
7. Freaks On This Side- Wants to be a party fave, but lacking.
8. Come On- Oh, I could jam this ALL NIGHT...
9. The One- Everyone seems to like this more than I do...
10. eye Like Funky Music- Party Fave...nod
49. Wasted Kisses- GREAT song.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Isn't sad, that as the less and less quality albums come out...we start to appreciate the albums that we hated years ago.

All that CRAP is really starting to sound good now that more crap is coming out.

Really sad day when NPS (with Larry G.--UGH!!!) is starting to sound good.

PRINCE...BRINK BACK THE FUNK!!!

THE REVOLUTION (J.R.) WILL BE HEARD.
