It's definitely a legitimate Club email.

PP9 began a thread on the U Tell Us forum over at NPGMC and posted the same text as the email.

It's mad. I do have some WB-branded 12" singles from Germany that don't seem to be mentioned in any of the official lists... but how likely is that I will post these off to NPGMC? Er, not very. Post off my bootlegs too? I don't think so. I honestly thought this post was a joke before I went to NPGMC and saw it with my own eyes...

I mean, if they were just looking for information, I am happy to give them that... but no more.

they may be trying to build a legal case regarding the defense of a WB claim or something.

perhaps they were served with discovery requests asking for all bootlegs pertaining to the WB years and they wouldn't know or have copies of these 'unofficial releases' themselves since the releases were bootlegs.

they may actually need help with this, guys

I've just posted my thoughts on this in the NPGMC forum in theblueangel's thread 'Mail in our bootlegs to the club? WTF?'

I will never understand Prince and his club's logic.

Puh-leaze!
what type of case demands all the actual evidence back
Who could the case be against? WB? from my slight understanding of the industry they have the rights to the music. call them what u will, but Prince signed a deal. WB music is not bootlegged music! Slave or not it's legit.

as for bootlegs...what will having the actual music help? he's simply trying desperately to see how many faithful fams he has a stonghold over. Who could he be filing this case against?

I'll gladly send him Cd-rs if he pays for my cost smile

i'll even make fancy artwork. I think he'd like that

yes, it must be the most astonishing undertaking of the NPGMC during all the three years (let's leave out the whole issue of delivering the goods, it's another story). I read the email and I thought "yeah right".

What came to my mind first was - they want us to deliver on our costs things that we bought and, in case of the official WB stuff, belong to us (as I assume the rights to the recordings have been transferred upon purchase legitly). And they don't even give a reason for that.

Just an order: pick up the things, pack them, post them on your costs and you don't even need to know why. Do they really think we are that blind when it comes to Prince?

Sounds like a test. But even taking on a silliest test usually has its reason known to both sides.

Since I don't know the cause I will skip this test, alright?

I agree with Prince in principle but not in practice.

I would be better served releasing his own personal recordings of concerts and selling them via NPGMC than to reclaim 1000's of bootlegs.

It is a shame that he did not have the foresight to do so with the original NPGMC.

OK its official, Prince has totally gone off the deepend of the the purple pool. Someone out there in org-land has to live in Vermilion Ohio. Your mission is to go and spy on that P.O. Box and see who picks up the stuff and where they go with it. My guess is that its Tony M.

Well, not that I think that there is or isn't a lawsuit in the works, but if WB "unofficially" released his music without giving him his cut of the sales, then yeah he'd have one heck of a lawsuit.
