My Review of Under The Cherry Moon I never understood why people thought under the cherry moon was such a bad moviek consider the fact that this is Prince first movie, he wrote and directed himself. I always liked this movie.Even though whole black and white cinema thingy. It made the movie seem more sophitiscated, like you where getting ready 2 watch a flick from the 40's. The Charectors where unique and The Plot had a pretty good point to it, which was money can't always buy happiness and sometimes you just got to go with things in your heart, at least that's what I got from it. Christopher Tracy was a charming charector, this was the most playful I seen prince since the Sign O' the times video and Tricky was a fun Charector, he made the movie more fiesty ya know.
I don't take it as like one of those serious movies you supposed sit around and watch like it's some kinda foreign film, but you gotta admit overall the movie was fun.

For the record Becky Johnston, not Prince, wrote the movie.

I really like this movie. If you forget it's Prince and just sit back and watch, it's quite good, actually.
the only thing I can really criticize is the way Christopher dies (what the hell is up with that fall?), other than that, this was/is a great, funny movie. ~KiKi

Most people don't get this movie because they don't get Prince's creative method. He can't be stereotyped because he synthesizes genres. Under The Cherry Moon is the synthesis of Romantic Comedy, Drama, Trajedy, & Film Noir film genres. He is also playful by having an Apple computer in one the scenes when the setting is 1940. Remember folks everything in a movie is intentional.

Warners didn't like the ending either. They wanted Prince's character to survive and run off to live happily ever after with Mary.According to the Possessed book, the alternate ending was actually filmed. But in the end,Prince got his way.

I just watched this again the other night. I think there are some very good scenes in it (great cinematography), but as a whole it doesn't work very well. I used to LOVE this flick but this was the 1st time I watched it when I was kinda agreeing with the critics (or its just me getting old).
Prince simply can't act. Posing and smirking is not acting Prince I hate to break it to you. Kristin Scott Thomas is WAY over dramatic (I know its her first acting gig but she can't be proud of that performance). The parents are ok. The story isn't bad but why have a dramatic sad ending to a romantic comedy? The scenery and the music (obviously) were the best things about it and Jerome, I think, was one of the better things to enjoy in the movie. The absolute best thing is the Mountains video at the end while the credits are rolling. Finally were Prince and Jerome supposed to lovers at one point or something? They kinda acted like they were. Prince starts falling for Mary and Jerome was all jealous. Also why the hell was Jerome throwing rose petals in Prince's bath...or why the hell was Jerome even in the bathroom while Prince was in the tub?

Jerome's character got jealous becuase he like mary as well. As far as the bath thing goes, yeah, that's a little odd, but remember this is a prince movie I think that this was meant to be a funny, tounge-in-cheek romantic comedy (that's why the ending makes no sense), and if you take it for just that, it's not that bad. ~KiKi

I just thought they where best friends,it didn't seem gay 2 me. They where just 2 men who where close and who where some gigolos. Jerome was supposed to be like a pimp and Prince was supposed to be like his whore. That's why Jerome was like he was supposed 2 get 15 precent commision, after Prince get in2 Mary Sharon's drawz [This message was edited Wed Jul 23 20:12:44 PDT 2003 by DigitalLisa]

True, but let's give Prince props.NOBODY smirks and poses likes he does...lol...in this movie,he's got it down to a science The worst scene in the film is when Tricky exposes Prince as a fraud, and Mary walks away from Christopher, saying "Do you lie?".Prince puts his hands over his eyes, pretending to be crying. That scene is horrible.
