Diamonds & Pearls on SACD (Super Audio)

I didn't know D&P was available on SACD. It must sound great. Does anyone have this title?

I bought this back in '93 or so but never bothered to buy a SACD player for just this one record...

Just checked the disc and it says 1995...
I never bought a player cos back then they cost about $9000...
The newer discs that are being manufactured since '98/'99 use double HD layers, this one just had 1 HD layer so the quality isn't really that super at all, it's just a little better than a normal CD...

I thought that there existed a Prince SACD. Too bad it's D&P's. It must be rare as chicken testicles though.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I cant find any evidence of any official SACD or HDCD releases of any of Prince' music. Is this some unclever hoax?

Back in the '90's I've seen it for sale at numerous recordstores in Europe and The US...

Though I've never seen it in real life, the info I can find on it makes it look like it's a Russian bootleg. WB has no information regarding an authorized SACD of any Prince album.

Last time I checked WB was supporting DVD-As, not SACDs, so it would be surprising.

And here's a link to Amazon.com:

January 19, 1993? I don't think so. SACDs were introduced in 1999. I'm ready to bet that this was just a mistake in a database, somewhere, and that this SACD doesn't exist.

Uhm... SACD's introduced in 1999??
You probably think CD's were introduced in 1987 too...

No, the first CD was released in October 1982 in Japan (Billy Joel, "52nd St."). And the first SACDs were released in May 1999, also in Japan. Maybe you're thinking about HDCD?

Nope SACD...
Double layer SACD's were introduced in 1999, single layer SACD's were pretty common back in the early 90's, hell even Laserdisc players from the early 90's were manufactured and sold sporting the SACD logo...
Ever seen those old Philips SACD players from 1990?

No, I've never seen them, because they never existed. Look, I don't know if you're trolling or not (no offense if you're not), but if you can point me to a single Web site that says that SACDs were available before 1999 then fine. If not, then I'm pretty sure you're thinking about something else.

Oliver is right - the SACD format was not introduced until 1999 (a joint development, I think, between Phillips and Sony).

I searched all day for a single website but couldn't find one...
But I don't see why I should waist my time "trolling" about a dumbass topic as this, but anyway I have this SACD, bought it at "The Free Record Shop" here in Holland back in the day, even some shitty bookclub in Holland (ECI) sold these and I remember seeing ALOT of player (LD players) with the SACD logo on it...

Well I'd rather believe someone who actually works for Philips and had a SACD player since 1994 than this Oliver guy...

Check the Phillips web site... http://www.sacd.philips.c...mat_3.html

It says..."The SACD standard, published by Philips and Sony in March 1999, defines three possible disc types..."

If you know someone who has had a player since '94, he probably didn't have much to play on it for five years.

Oh, come on: I don't want to sound like Bart, but prove me wrong. I read *everywhere* that the first SACDs and first SACD players were introduced in 1999. It's even in Sony's FAQ:

http://www.sonymusic.com/sacd/

I don't care if Philips or Sony had experimental SACD players in their "laboratories" already in 1997 or 1998, but in your first post you wrote:
I bought this back in '93 or so but never bothered to buy a SACD player for just this one record...

And then:
Just checked the disc and it says 1995...
I never bought a player cos back then they cost about $9000...

So you're supposed to have a SACD that was released in 1995. Can we have pictures?

I'm not saying that I'm not wrong, but I would be surprised if I was. And I'm the kind of guy who needs to see it to believe it. So I'd rather believe all the sites I've found with Google than this Neversin guy... smile

Hello! this is my very 1st post here so don't kill me smile
I have been reading here since last year when I found this website.
I wanted 2 say that this neversin character is somewhat right.
I used 2 be a resprsntative of philips from 1993 to 1996.
Philips has developed and manufactured SA-CD players since 1991 and these were sold at various fairs through out the world for a very hefty price I might add, and with these player came various sampler discs (these were full albums though), the diamonds and pearls disc being 1 of them (these were fully authorised discs), these discs were also offered and sold at various retail outlets all over the world, the free record shop indeed being one of them.
The 1999 year is the year the SA-CD was produced on a commercial scale, just like 1982 was the year the normal CD was produced on a commercial scale (1978 being the year that cd players were sold on fairs like the old SA-CD players were sold early in the 90s).
Just see these old players as some sort of beta test equipment.

And to olb99: that billy joel disc was the first COMMERCIALY released disc, the very first ever disc was a Mozart compilation cd that was manufatured in 1978 wink

greetings from The BuckCrawler!

It's highly possible that this guy has a 1995 version of that disc bcause there were 2 printings of it 1 right after
the normal cd release in 1991 and 1 in 1995.
