Amazon.com (yes, .com) has N.E.W.S for $16.99!

It's not the best price but at least its available pretty soon. It has the ablum will be released on July 29! I just think if you are not a NPG member and are American this is a great deal. Check it out. Is this right? Did it maybe just go up? The sales seem real low even for Prince lately.

the US amazon was really slow to list n.e.w.s. Last time I checked they didn't even have it! The French and German Amazon sites have had it up since June and it's one of the top sellers over there.

I just find it surprising becuase wasn't it questionable if it the album was even going to be released in the US through retail. I wonder if if is an exclusive deal just with Amazon or what. Can we expect it in stores?

Low Sales, you say?

Imagine you are not part of this web site, and you are just a casual Prince fan.

You think to yourself, hmmm, I'd like to get some Prince music, now let's see what they have.

Then you look at the product description.

How many people do you think would be interested in 4, 14 minute instrumental tracks by Prince, with no online reviews, and virtually no advertisements anywhere?

Hmmm, why are the sales low? wink

I agree with everything you've said, except... that's still no reason NOT to make the music as readily available as possible.

Depending on the type of distribution deal Prince has arranged, he gets paid just by selling the music to the retail outlets.

I agree though that the vast, vast majority of the public, even casual Prince fans, aren't going to buy N.E.W.S. But as an artist, Prince's job is not to determine who will or will not like his art well enough to purchase it. His job is to create and then make that creation available if he is compelled to do so.

low sales???
Everywhere I have tried to order I have been told the cd is on back order.
I am told that orders are being filled as soon as the cds come off the pallet.
I am on a waiting list.
Low sales, indeed! hrmph

Does that mean high sales, or limited pressing? I'm not saying I'm not going to buy this, and I know most people on this site will buy it, but expand from there, and this is simply not an appealing CD to anyone.

Pop fans: They will see this as Jazz, and would not buy it. They also consider Prince past his prime.

Jazz fans: They consider Prince to be a pop artist, and will not buy it.

Music Critics: Have yet to review the CD, so pop and jazz fans still know nothing about it.

Plain and simple, that spells low sales.

Do you think Prince expected to sell 10 million cd when he went independent? I don't think he thinks he is going to sell millions of copies of any type of music as long as he is a independent artist.
'
In addtion, part of the reason we the fans wanted him to go independent is to do experimental music. When he put out NPG people on this site were pissed. The basic feeling was this type of music is to commercial. Now he puts out something that is experimental and people like you complain that it will not sell. Sometimes you cannot have sells and art.

No no. I agree with you. I personally don't care about the sales, just as long as I continue to like the music. I am not arguing with you on this point, that would be stupid.

I was just providing justification for the numbers you saw. That's all.

Indie all the way!

I would figure that since it that is the only place you could get the album that the sales would be higher. No, I didn't think that Prince would have the number one album on Amazon but I figured even with the little hype that is around it (and there has been some hype other than here) that it would be higher than 8,000+. Also, keep in mind that Amazon often caters more to fans with slightly different tastes. In other words, an Annie Lennox album will sell better than a Beyonce album on Amazon.

And I think that everyone would (or should) be interested in this album!

I just checked the link and the sales position is now 1320, which is impressive considering it isn't released for two weeks. Maybe people just have to know about it.
