wasn't this a song prince wrote in the first half of the 80's to later use it for the batman album? when was this song written exactly? and is there a demo recording circulating? in general, are there different versions from this song besides the album and video version? thanks in advance..

From what I have heard or read, he came up with the idea for the Partyman song after having met Jack Nicholson on the set of "Batman".

Jack man was sitting there with his feet on the table, sunglasses on and Prince was so impressed by Jack's immense "cool"-factor that it inspired him to write the song "Partyman".

Word has it that Jack is/ was a very big Prince fan and that it was him who convinced the director of "Batman" that Prince was "the man" to do the Batman soundtrack.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Apologies for vagueness, but I recall reading that it was considered for Under The Cherry Moon, maybe instead of Girls and Boys?

I read that once too, also that it was written for Morris Day around that time (I know he's said that about Movie Star too).

According to all sources (DOW, Turn It Up) it's from the Batman sessions.

Anyone remember the stuff about 319 being from the Batman sessions?

There's also an unreleased remix of the track and that's a naughty bootleg!

Yeah, I think that song has earlier histories. The Camille voice just kind of suggests that. He just re-produced it probably with the instruments/sounds of '89 period.

But I have also read or heard both those stories, the Jack one being the more popular, but who knows, maybe the song was kind of rewritten and spiced up after meeting Mr. Nicholson.

Now, 319 DOES sound like an 80's jam!
