Prince covered Steve Vai?

I heard Prince covered a composition called "Tender surrender". He did it live at a Paisley Park show in '95-96?

anyone know about this?

That's what he is credited as playing during at least one show at Paisley Park (August 1995), although that particular credit conflicts with other sources, which suggest he was playing 'Villanova Junction' by Jimi Hendrix.

'Villanova Junction' and Tender Surrender have the same intro melody, so, he played the elody, and it sounded more like the steve vai version, but more bluesy, it's like he was in the middle of the two songs.

i seem to remember it being a bad version of the song. it sounded as if the NPG had never rehearsed it and prince said to himself - fuck it, let's play it anyway.
