just felt the need to add a little bit to handclaps' report:

three friends and myself drove up from k.c. for the party (about a 7.5 hour drive). doors opened about 10:30 and the stage was definately set up for some sort of performance. one of prince's techies was trying to hook up some sort of light to his songbook (evidently paisley park believes in the magic of duct tape as well). anywho, after a while prince came out and played two new songs over the p.a. for us. one was "musicology" (very fun ... definately dancible, but still in keeping with the "real music by real musicians" feel). the other i couldn't figure out the name of. i assume it's the same one he played at the front about a month back. he also played "1+1+1=3" (including "rollercoaster" and "housequake") off of the new dvd for us. i still can't say that i'm a huge fan of the production techniques he's used on the show (handhelds, frenetic cuts, etc), but the energy is unbelievable! very cool and i can't wait to pick up my copy.

after 3 or so, we started driving back to kansas city. if i were a betting man, i'd guess that tonights party will include some sort of performance. too bad i'm gonna miss it, but last night was very cool all the same.
