Secret Society come here... come closer I won't bite
As Being a Prince fan, do u ever feel as if u’re following some kind of occult? You know like we’re a secret society who holds the key 2 true music or something? Cuz I was just thinking about this the other day. Prince fans are unlike any other music fans that’s out there. You can always tell another Prince fan from afar, we have r own languge. R own writing (princebonics) and our way of viewing life outside the purple music realm . Even when I go 2 a Prince show, I feel as if I’m going 2 a convention only 2 support other fans…. I always told outsiders when going 2 a Prince concert, it’s just a whole different experience so (NPG VOICE) …..Please enjoy ur experience Tony M: No don’t come 2 the concert [This message was edited Fri Jun 27 8:58:57 PDT 2003 by DigitalLisa]

You're absolutely right, Lisa and I have been trying to explain this to people for years.
When I used to write freaky stuff all over my school books like "May you live to see the dawn" people thought I was nuts! It makes for a fantastic atmosphere at gigs!

Then what tops everything off is when one day I got in trouble for writing a book report all in princebonice, Me and my teacher still laughs about that when she see me , otherwise it would've been a A+ That's when everybody start calling me Ms. Prince or Princes wife [This message was edited Fri Jun 27 9:25:19 PDT 2003 by DigitalLisa]

yeah I used to doodle prince lyrics in the margins of letters, notes for class, I still have a pair of jeans that I wrote all over when Lovesexy came out, my daughter wears them now.
I used to put PFE-Prince Fan Elite behind the names of prince fams in my address book. ( before computers) my friend still puts me in as Princefam in her address book and she knows my name. losts of people thought I was weird and only when someone was a fan would I talk about him and then someone listening in wouldn't even know what we were talking about. We definately R a "unique" bunch. We have many common interests, intelligence, sex, problems etc. etc. etc. There is a comfortable feeling among P ppl, that ppl not "into" P feel when around us, at least with me. Since I have been involved with princes music, I have been asked if I were a singer, musician, psychic, mind reader by mostly prince ppl, BUT others as well. Very strange, indeed. Was never asked this stuff B4. Other strange occurances happen from time 2 time too, that never have. Some other ppl I have talked 2, have also had these experiences of similiarity. Plus SECRET SOCIETY? Very much so. I find MOST prince ppl very private. Not a bad thing! Some R just quite hard 2 get 2 know, but if a person wants it 2 B that way, ppl tend 2 accept IT & THEM as well. No one cares what others do, or wear, or what religion they R, or sex preference, or color, or what their opinions R. THATS THE WAY IT SHOULD STAY, IMO, AS PRINCE ONCE TAUGHT US ALL! Total acceptance & understanding & love 4 1 another! May the BELLS ring 4 U even when ur not in love.

very nicely put Except for the nutty princebonics! I don't care who or what people listen to, though i do feel a great sense of pride listening to the man.Today i was on the bus listening to Lovesexy on my MP3 player and i got a couple of funny looks off folks.I guess people are used to hearing a monotous "tsss tsss tsss tsss" dancemusic-type sound, so to hear real instruments and songs must be a shock to some. Or maybe they just thought i was a sad old wanker that can't let go of the past!

yes! for years i stood steadfast and strong and fought off any naysayers but now...
well... maybe i was a fool. although,... i was in a pub tonight in soho in london and there was a jukebox in there i put 2 pounds in and it gave me 6 songs to choose , i chose 5 prince songs from the hits (mainly from dirty mind controversy period) and madonna - hollywood (new) and people in the pub were groovin to this stuff and i remembered why he was good. the barman said : good choice. and i thought , hmmm...

d-lisa...i'm grinning when i say: secret society?
i haven't thought of us being that. i've been to STAR tREK Cons & music orientated conventions and i'd say those people are WAY out there-more than prince fans are. keep in mind-since p isn't as HUge as he was back during purple rain and i hear we lost a lot of online folk (b4 i joined this year) it makes us seen like some sort of cult! but i don't see us that way. how about an exclusive club? that sounds cooler to me...then again being in something small like this is kinda cool. i give ya props for what you did to people lockers. man... U are a FAN!!! just for all US people the geekiest (handclaps i dig your word "geekette") strangest fans i've even seen is a tie between STAr trek fans and DR, WHo fans. trust me,us prince fans ain't THAT weird. (and i say this not as a knock to those trekkies or dr, who peeps..some of those peeps are friends of mine...just a observation!) younga ( new breed organized)

I think the mistake that most of us make is believing that we are an elite group. I don't think we are any different from Bowie fanatics or Miles Davis fanatics, except maybe we are a little more secular and not open to outside views. It will be our undoing, you see. It were proper bo I tell the!! Bo Selecta!

So, nobody said Bowie fanatics (or Miles freaks) weren't an elite group. One doesn't negate the other. The Normal Whores Club

I really love being a Prince fan, I'm lucky too!! Believe me ya'll I was a music "ignorant" b4 him. Now I'm more opened 2 other different music and styles. And hey I love being an "outsider" don't wanna be a stuck-up but it makes me thank god that I experience REAL music when I'm stuck here between those who're addicted to such and such!
