Emancipation or Crystal Ball These were kindof released in the same era/timeframe (although the songs are years apart. and their both 3 cd's long.
so which do you prefer? [This message was edited Sun Jul 6 23:04:20 PDT 2003 by Sdldawn]

Actually, Emancipation and I have had a reunion lately. I separated the fast and slow songs onto their own discs and weeded out the crap. It's more enjoyable to listen to that way. But Crystal Ball is still my fave.

Probably Crystal Ball when you take individual songs and different time frames into account- but Emancipation felt like an actual album despite its length and was not a compilation.
That gives it the edge- Emancipation it is, for now. Back in '98 when Crystal Ball was released however, I thought it beat the pants off of Emancipation. [This message was edited Mon Jul 7 7:12:08 PDT 2003 by jtgillia]

crystal ball is sooo much better than emanicipation. there's no comparison. i love cb and can't understand why so many people dislike these albums.

Crystal Ball on the strength of Days Of Wild alone.

Tough call for me, I think perhaps Disk 2 of Emancipation wins me over, but the actual song Crystal Ball is a masterpiece..
so I will go with Crystal Ball.

oh, this one's tough! both discs have some perfect moments...both discs have some low points...both discs were touted (by prince, of course) as something other than what they ended up being! i listen to CB more often, and i think i need to be in the mood for emancipation...well, except disc 2, which is 60 minutes of bliss...see, that's were the problem is for me with this decision. CB has low points on each disc (except the truth, which i guess doesn't count) but emancipation's 2nd disc is perfect. Shit, this is really tough...i'ma get back to ya on this one! i have to listen to both sets now...luckily i have that 6 hour drive to MPLS coming up thursday...i'll be deliberating until then.

Its hard becuase both have their good and bad songs. But I think the good stuff on "Cyrstal Ball" (the title track, "How You Wanna Be Done", "Movie Star", etc) wins out plus "Emanicpation" has the worst song ever (not worst Prince song but WORST SONG ever)...what am I talking about...It's "Coutrtin ' Time". And I didn't like disc 2 of "Emanipation" and really thought disc 3 was the best one. I guess I should try and give disc 2 another chance.

I never liked Emancipation at all, but recently decided to give Disc 2 a try. Some of the tracks have really won me over: Joint 2 Joint, Holy River, Saviour. Give them a spin. Another example of how the Org has helped me to appreciate Prince music! I only did this because so many Orgers were going on about Joint 2 Joint, which I always thought was stupid. I'd also never played it past a minute or two. When I finally listened to all 8 minutes of it, I was very pleasantly surprised. No one-trick pony, this song. And as cheesy as Saviour is, it grabbed me somewhere. How embarrassing. The Normal Whores Club
