Vinyl VS CD

Which do you prefer?
And what are the differences in sound quality between a vinyl and a CD?

Records do sound better when they're new - they have a higher frequency or something (I can't remember exactly?). But once they start to get old, there's no stopping them dying. At least with CDs you know that they will sound the same in 20 years time as it did when you first bought it!. Most of the records in my Prince collection were bought second hand, and many sound like crap because their previous owners were unworthy collectors!

Man I really loved VINYL.

Records seemed far more precious and special because of the fact they were easy to damage. You had to take more care with them (no fingerprints etc). Also the packaging was more substantial (who remembers the cool gatefold sleeve for Parade?)

CDs are just a commodity (although I still treat mine very carefully)

The sound on vinyl is better because it has got both higher and lower frequency available. The sound is also "warmer". BUT records scratch easily.

No matter how clean you keep your vinyl, they still sound like pouring milk on Rice Krispies. But until the '80's catalog get's remastered, Prince on vinyl offers more depth.
Especially noticable on the 1999 LP.

If only Prince and Warners would kiss and make up, the fans who want remastered CD's would be happy, and the Record Corp. & Pissy McPurple would be able to pay off their respective mortgages.

Then we could retire our vinyl, only bringing it out to freak out our grandchildren.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Vinyl. I love the way on vinyl you have two (or four) sides. SOTT is really a different experience on vinyl than on cd because each side seesm to have its own personality. Plus gatefold sleeves and inner sleevs are way cooler than cd boxes.

How come when I started a similar thread, I got flamed and told I was an idiot for preferring vinyl?

I have everything up to SOTT on vinyl only. From LS onwards it's all CDs except 12" singles from LS, Batman, GB and D&P.

I love vinyl. 2nd-hand records r almost all I buy these days.
