prince "lovin" friends from liking ole boy?

what made U get into Prince?

the first question i ask you guys becuz some of my old
school friends tend to look at me kinda strange for
liking prince these days cuz he's not "IN'.
IF I GET some grief from old school music fans i
wondered if U new schoolers get the same "shit" FROM
your peers!

question 2 is just me curious as to how you new schoolers
got into our hero.

one little tidbit: some of the new fans i've met that are
under 28 all tell me the movie purple rain GOt them
into prince. which is kinda cool. tht movie really did
hook in a lot of people!

question 1: u should see the amount of shit i get from friends/family members etc. 4 liking Prince.

question 2: i've been a 'serious' fan for about 3 or 4 years now, i got int2 Prince after seeing 'Purple Rain'(the movie ),once i saw that i bought 'Sign 'O' The Times' (the album ),then it just kinda went on from there.

1: Oh yes, nobody digs Prince, and most of my friends can't understand him..
2: Because I started liking 80's music, and got into more rock music.. and.. welll 80's and rock.. I guess that's just PRINCE.. .. I haven't got any special reasons.. ?!?! Well maybe, I just thought he was strange/different, and I wanted to know more about him..

1) growin up in iowa i did get a fair amount of shit for likin the brotha--hell, folks thought i wuz one odd cookie as it is. i didn't like contemporary music, i hung out with all the punx and goths and geex...there were some folks who admitted that they liked prince, but mostly shit like "purple rain" and "gett off".

2) i kept seein and hearin about p before i got into 'im. i remember seein the video for "kiss" all the time and wonderin how could a dude sing so high... i ended up fallin in love with the song, tho'. what really got me into his work is comin across my sister's copy of dirty mind and listenin to it outta curiosity. it wuz like, "omg, this kix ass!!! i wonder what else he's done way back when!"

I always dance on 319 and all the customers like to see it and they like the song even as well sometimes I dance to ripopgozippa or vavoom and men start howling like wolfes. When i say I am prince fan my friends sometimes do not know prince and I give them tape most people like prince after it

I have seen the movie purple rain 4 times and cherry moon only once it was very nice in black and wite and prince in very sexy pants and naked belly.

1.LOL in the block I live in, you see me the ONLY person who bumb his shit in my stereo which is uncommon cuz people here are caught up with Nas, 50 Cents, Jigga, Joe Budden and the rest of 'em. And maaan I always get heat from my younger brotha who always teases me about Prince even tho I feel he's a closet fan as "yo, what the fuck is so charming about this queer ass nigga anyway?"

2.Actualy, the reason HOW I got into him is I passed by his "Rave" LP in the wrecka stow and It was so cheap so I bought it. I knew him b4, I saw "Cream", "TMBGITW" & "7" couple o' times I got intrested in him. Also my sistah was a huge fan(yeah of Dirty Mind too) and I always used to tell myself "If he's so damn horny then why thell wouldn't he masturbate?" lol anyway, by the time I bought "Rave" my sistah moved to Newark NJ and took all of her suff with her(dozens of P's items). From Rave, to "Purple Rain"(The LP), to "O+>", to the "Beautiful Experience", to the "hits/b-sides" and to all of his CDs and movies(I still can't find The Black Album tho ) and now I'm collecting his boots

I got into Prince back in 2000, such a small period made me dug waaay into deep about his stuff. Makes me wonder what will I have from him if completed 8 years like Dansa or others.

it is interesting how people react to prince. if U think
about it-there is no middle ground with him. people either
DIG da boy ta death or HATE his guts!

back when he first came out i think he was more "down" with
females. they dug him cuz he was "cute" and liked his music
and singing. (the falsetto voice he used almost exclusively
back then got the ladies big time!)

and for all the gay "mafia" peeps on this line P was really
BIG among the gay dudes i knew.

straight guys like me were sort of in the minority. but then
again..it was easy for me to dig prince Bcuz i knew who his
influences were and thought he just added his own "thang"
to the palette,so to speak.

to me physically he looked like EDmund Slyvers (of the singing group,the Sylvers) dude had the look that girls
would dig...then he went and got the long perm and i chuckled! but strangely enuff i didn't think like most of
da brothas (i hung with) that he was a "sissy" (this term
was used WAY back in the 60's!)
i just dug what the dude DID musically.

me being from CHicago...it wasn't a stretch to be a P fan.

like there? did they play pRINCE much?

right now being a devout fan of his ain't considered cool..
not from the people i KNOW.
(but what's so of funny is a lot of the hip-hip rappers cite
prince as somebody they DUg or dig. he's looked at as highly
as GEorge cLINton and JB is from these guys!)

just loved it,then a few months later 'Rave' came out,i listened 2 it in the store,liked it alot,bought it & it went from there.
so being in love with britney spears didn't turn out 2 b such a bad thing after all!

1. I think I'm the only "serious" Prince fan in Brisbane (Australia). Makes it hard to find rare CDs and records!. Most people have a little chuckle or something when you say you like Prince, and then they say "Isn't his name that symbol thing or something?". (I've given up trying to explain the whole name change thing!)

2. I was (and still am) a huge Miles Davis fan and collector. I read in his bio that he loved Prince in the 80s and I thought that was interesting/curious. Then a couple of days later there was a Prince video clips night on the music channel, so I wathced a bit, trying to see what Miles saw in him (I thought he was just another 80s pop star clone before then). Then "1999" came on. I had heard it before, but for some reason it hit me that this was a real deal artist!. The next day I bought The Hits 1 and now here I am 4 years later with way too many Prince CDs!

my friends think im strange for liking mj so they werent overly shocked when i announced my un dying love for prince.

and it was michael jackson fans that recently (in the last 6 months) got me into prince.

I'm 19, and of course I get shit from some of my friends. Though I have to say that a lot of my closests friends really dif him and also saw the ONA tour.
The others either shut up when I play something, or know that I know a thing or two about music or they listen to Death Metal.

2.Question:
I got into Prince through the Gold video (saw it in 1997, I think). I knew TMBGITW and Money Don't matter and remember being amazed by the SOTT video (the song) and the Batdance video, but what got me hooked was Gold.
