Are we in control or not?

look...this stuff about Prince being an "artist" is cool and him being the "painter". That's all fine and dandy.

He should have the right to release what he wants and when he wants, but WHY can't he do both?...he can. He could very easily excite fans and give them some first class music by simply letting us hear some old stuff.

With the thousands of live and rehearsal recordings he has, is it too difficult to let us hear a few of them?

Dammit...i'm sick of this shit about him being in control and fans defending him, leave my man alone...let him do what he wants! evil

BS...and we have no say in anything?, it's at times like these and with his "career" as it is when he needs his fanbase, what's left, the most.

Throw us a few bones Prince, get us all happy and excited..release some old soundboard shows on CD.

You can do it if the will is there, no wonder people listen more to bootlegs then they do your official product.

I just wanna feel that Prince "buzz" again, i wanna hear some old outtakes and stuff i've not heard before.

I'll NEVER forget when "Fantasia" 3CD came out and put it in the machine, i was blown away and gob smacked...the sheer quality was that of an official release.

It was all sooo professional and every song was new to me, even the few i had heard in shitty quality was rediscovered again.

I want that kind of feeling back, to be amazed and shocked by his music, to feel like i did when i heard "Journey 2 The Center Of Your Heart", i had tears in my eyes...sooo beautiful.

And then being lifted right up again as "I Am The DJ" played...that's the true "spirit" i want from his music. And i just don't get that anymore.

We as fans have endured alot of shit from Prince, and we have stood by him...but increasingly i am saying to myself, why bother?

I've thought about doing one of my "give away" sessions and giving all my collection to other fans and allow them the pleasure of what music i have collected over the years.

Then i think...maybe he'll do the right thing by us, give it time...not a hope.

I like Prince and his music, but i've found myself develop other hobbies and interests, i wanna stick around...but can't really see the point?

sad

U got that right! worship
I think he's proven that the business side of things isn't his strong point.I'm ALL for Prince doing things his way,but my interest is growing thin now.
N.E.W.S is nothing more than a side project which would have happily served as an NPGMC download, NOT an official release.
O.N.A. Live suffered from WAY too many over-dubs, and I've listened to it twice. The bootlegs have much more atmosphere to them.

Bottom line: no, we have no say in anything. And, believe it or not, it's always been that way.

Actually I think as Prince fans we are a reclusive part of the music fan community...for most of us, our joy in his music is derived from the fact that it is so often a solitary pleasure...

HOWEVER, recently I have found that the music is enjoyable all over again if you are with the right people in the right surroundings, sharing it with others...the really good stuff, that is.

That's the way it has been with my girlfriend and her friends, who now loves Prince (play girls the stuff you can dance to, notably most of "the B-sides" disc") and I am slowly getting a lot of my guy friends into him, too. It's good when other's recognise that his music is really "the shit".

...It helps that, as a guitarist, I play a little like him, too....'cause my musician friends appreciate that, and when I tell them that on guitar my biggest influence is Prince they're surprised, but interested.

So my point is, share this joy with others...it'll catch on eventually.

lol...no,we are NOT in control.Prince does what he pleases and we can either buy it or not buy it.I don't think he cares either way. When you've been in the business as long as he has,at some point, you develop a "fuck you" attitude. You create the music that YOU wanna make and you don't always care if others like it too.But I agree with your frustrations. We all have ideas of what Prince SHOULD be doing, and what would make us happy, but in the end,it's his career.
