I have to say that I have never been sick of Prince, but my interest did fade for quite some time. Probably right around the symbol deal as well. For that reason I am unfamiliar with most any of his recent endeavers. I wont spend the kind of money that it requires to buy his music or join his site, and therefore I probably wont get a chance to hear any of it anytime soon. (unless I happen across it at Cheapo or something.) I do still look when I am there because it was always more his music then him that held my attention most.

I am a little sick of Prince so I cut back on my listening habits and stopped collecting every boot I could get my hand on.

Actually Prince's "nutter" fans are one of the many reasons that I am down on Prince. The word "fam" makes me cringe and at the few Paisley parties there has been in the last couple of years the fams seem to be taking over and it makes me ill.

I don't really care for Prince's new belief system or his music so I am withdrawing from the scene a bit. I still dig the org though (except the fams big grin ).

I feel ya here...i've had similiar feelings the last few months.

no, for a couple of reasons:

1.I'm not on here 24/7

2.I don't listen to his music 24/7

I've been a fan for 20 years, I've sort gotten used to him.

Besides, I took a 'break' from him during that whole symbol fiasco. I just recently started paying attention to him again in 2000 smile

my Prince listening goes in waves. Although, in the last few years, my periods of not listening to Prince seem more frequent and last longer...I love the music, but it's changed in the past 5 years...and as I continue to find new bands to listen to, I just can't devote all my time to the man...

Indeed...i feel ya nod

Prince is it! Other artists don't interest me. Prince is what I know, I am comfortable with him, he is definitely my comfort zone. Who wants to be bothered with trying to 'get into' someone new. As long as he is pumping out as always, I am a fan for LIFE!

prince ...

There really is a lot more 2 music than Prince and U should listen 2 other artists or U really are being blinkered. Prince is in many ways an amalgamation of other artists and styles. He is my favorite artist but his music has led me to other stuff ie James Brown, George Clinton, Parliament/Funkadelic, Miles Davis, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana and on and on.
Realise what U like about P and see where he got it from. U won't regret it!nod

i've always listened to other artists and my interest in prince arises primarily from the fact i lived/live in mpls too. loved his parties, back when he had them, and always respect the man for doing that for his supporters.

even so i'm not sick of him but his latest work has puzzled me in a way his prior stuff never did. i can't relate to his message the way i used to, in fact i disagree with him strongly on some points and with the way he makes those points. i know it's his right to express what he feels but i don't like the way his shows have changed.

so, i've been going my own way away from his stuff more and more. i fast forward through the lyrics that bug me and change the CD entirely when i have to. it works, and i enjoy his music for the music when i'm in the mood for it

also i appreciate what he's done with his life which is far more than most people have accomplished. i think he deserves to be in the rock and roll hall of fame, at least, for all that. the world is a better place for him being a part of it and he's inspired a lot in the way of artistry.

i don't think i could ever be entirely 'sick' of prince

I don't think I will ever be sick of Prince...I have been listening to his music since 1979. Even if there is another artist out there as prolific, Prince will always be THE ONE.

I'm not "sick" of Prince but I'm ready to move on. As an artist myself I have to keep moving. It took me a long time to eat it all up though-- since 1994. It's also been an interesting ride.
Along the way I got into Jimi, Stevie, Led Zeppelin and others. Having grown up an R&B and hip-hop (not rap) head I was looking to move in a different direction. First I thought it might be Bjork but that didn't do it. Then just recently I thought it might be Radiohead-- I like Kid A but OK Computer, which I've had for a while, just isn't doing it for me. Radiohead lacks the joy and energy I want to get out of my music.
Fortunately, for me and all of those willing to listen there's Ani. clapping (I feel like a Jehova's Witness or Mormon trying to convert people but I feel that strongly). My only motive is to spread the news.
Her music might appeal more to mature people-- it's not pop-- but it has the spirit of youth still. I'm not going to compare her to Prince or any of the other greats, but I will say this: She rates right up there with the Princes, Stevies, Lennons, Dylans, ,Davises, Jonis, Jimis, or whoever you wanna compare her to. However, the thing that sets her apart from all of these other greats is that she's at the peak of her game now.
It's hard to describe her music-- the sign of a great musician. Her largest influence is folk music-- her roots-- but she incorporates rock, punk, jazz, hip-hop, you name it into her music. Reminds me of someone we all know and love. Like Prince she is a great vocalist. Neither of them have the greatest voices but they know how to use them as an instrument and, more importantly, when not to use them.
I'm still going back in her catalogue myself so I can't tell the uninitiated where to start. I started with Revelling/Reckoning myself over a year ago and I can say, atleast at this point of my life, it's better than Sign O' The Times. If nothing else go see her live. I just did for the first time, and it was great.
Anyway I hope this helps anybody out there looking for a new direction; something new to uplift and inspire them. I must warn you though, she tackles the issues-- the real issues-- not just what Abraham Lincoln may or may not have been thinking hundreds of years ago. For those that already know, feel free to add to this or correct me where you think I'm wrong-- but you know I'm right. lol

I'm not sick of him. I just wish he'd start being more creative again. I'm sick of that jazz/funk stuff. He should bring back some of that new wave-influenced funk.

Hide from no-one, surely? We are all equal, surely? Jimi Hendrix, when asked to comment about his so-called colour said that first and foremost he was a human being. Dig?

Check the intro to "Family Name". It's a great song by Prince. Remember that terms can be a fallacy sometimes.

Naw not yet. Probably never. Even at the height of his popularity there have been albums that didn't do anything for me, so I can deal with not liking some of the recent stuff. I'll ocasionally take a break and listen to other stuff, but Prince is always gonna be interesting.

Prince hasn't been selling like he used to a long time before religion entered into the picture.

What actions by Prince would make you turn your back on him?

None. Prince is not my man, or my friend. I don't much care what he does. I have the music, and I'll never tire of it as far as I can see.
