i'm still learnin about prince, for the most part. i know a helluva lot more at the present than what i did know when i started gettin into his music 8 years ago but there's still a lot more that i'm findin out. don't pigeonhole me with whoever else...i can most certainly tell ya that ya honestly can't be a "moron" to understand p's work.

Princes image was well cultivated by his record company. He had to go along with it. Besides the image is nothing like the real person. Maybe he thought his true fans will see past an image and see it is all about the music right?
He was very naive. Also WB did not allow him to deter very much from that image. Mostly hype. A mystery...Who is Prince? He just wanted everyone to know his name to impress his father. Fame equated to sucess. Funny thing about fame it is a double edged sword...And once you become famous you can never go back. Be careful of what you wish for. You just might get it. Fans spend so much time focusing on rumors that they miss the big picture. Prince signed with WB in 1977. By 1983 everyone knew his name. Usually it takes 10 years to be an overnight success. A million dollar contract at 19. Minus 2 years from your age to make you sound better. Sounded good. No celeb really tells their real age. Once you start it's difficult to start saying no.Give them something to talk about. The music won't suffer.Maybe he thought he was a boring person. His fans are so dead set on believing the manufactured fantasy called Prince.Performance Art. It's all an act.
