Would Prince have been as successful/well known had he used his full name,Prince Rogers Nelson?

on a doco i have on video,Chris Moon says that P wanted 2 use his full name Prince Rogers Nelson as his stage name.

Chris said he thought about marketing him as just 'Prince',minus the 'Rogers Nelson'
Chris said 2 Prince: "but there is no other PRINCE..."
& P's reply was: "ooh i dunnooo!"

i wonder if he would have caught everyones imagination & attention had he used Prince Nelson or Prince Rogers Nelson instead of just Prince.

personally... i think Prince gets your attention alot more,
like Madonna.

what do y'all think?

interesting topic, does make u wonder...in the beginning, it was all about the music and that's ultimately what got him noticed in the industry, not the name or stage act that would follow. i have a feeling that if he started out with his full name prince rogers nelson, that by the time 1999 came out, he would have shortened it to just prince cougar. oops, i'm confusing this with someone else who like to shorten/lengthen his name every so often! anyhoo, the end result woould have been the same either way, just prince and great music!!! so the answer to your question is YES

hmm...lets see..."Prince Rogers Nelson and The Revolution"/"Lolly Lolly: According to Prince Rogers Nelson"/"Prince Rogers Nelson and The New Power Generation"/ "The arists formerly known as Prince Rogers Nelson"/"My name is Prince Rogers Nelson and I am funky"

Well, it doesn't sound too good, lol, but I don't think it would've mattered, since it was his music/lyrics that got him noticed in the first place

Prince must have said "Excuse me Chris, What's ya family name"?

Chris came right back with, "We're gonna give u a new name Mr Nelson"...

Ahh...U get the idea wink

"Rogers" or "to roger" has some dodgy connotations in England so I think it's best left alone...

The full name is not as catchy or commanding of attention (due to the royalty/ is that his real name? type gossip mag questions)...he would've been successful no matter what but I'd almost guarantee he have shortened to just "prince" at some point anyway...P. did give a fuck marketing and image back in the day

Having a single name as individual as Prince is undoubtedly a very good marketing tool.

Desiree Heslop AKA Princess was fantastic.

She was right there at the start of SAW, the records they did with her and Dead Or Alive were ground-breaking.
