Purple Rain / God (Vocal / Instrumental)

Have seen this on ebay, it has the instrumental version of god as well (wasnt aware that one existed)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/...egory=1080

Thinking of getting it, but is it worth that much???

I don't think it's worth £20. It's not like it didn't sell many copies or anything. If U live in the UK (Checked your profile which U haven't filled in ! no no no!) U should be able 2 pick it up quite cheaply if U scour second hand record shops.

BTW the instrumental version of God is the music that is playing while Prince is having sex with Appolonia in Purple Rain. I don't know why they call it God as it has nothing musically to do with God (vocal).

Oh this is a nice one. Yes, I think it is worth 30-60 especially if mint.

Great addition to your collection. I would get it, I only have the vocal UK release.

God Instrumental is one, of the most beautiful piece of instrumental Prince and the Revolution have ever done, IMO. Awesome track that starts of slow and builts to a dramatic climax

I didn't know that the made the UK version in Purple. I have the US version in Purple but I don't think I have ever seen the God Insturmental in Purple. A few years ago I would have HAD to found this but these days I'm pretty much through with collecting.

I've been trying to find the instrumental version for years. I have the purple vinyl, but the purple ones are not the instrumentals. Anyone know where I can find the instrumental version?

Yes, it's definitely an essential Prince track, but you coudl probably find it on Kaaza or Direct Connect, instead of buying it. Prince won't get anything from buying a used record, so that is not a factor here. But it's a great track and very different from the vocal version.

God instrumental is only available on the UK 12" of Purple Rain but is not that rare (at least in the UK) The Purple vinyl 12" is the US version and doesn't feature the instrumental. Like I said if U live in the UK try second hand record stores. If not orgnote me and I'll have a look!!

Possibly the worst A side/B side mix. PURPLE RAIN is an amazing track. One of his best up until that point. Unfortunately, GOD is a lousy track-one of his worst B-sides (the worst up to that point, but later bypassed by GIRL). Luckily it didn't make it to the album (neither the vocal nor the instr. were really ever considered for it). I know some people like it, but the lyrics are goofy and it is not a track you can play infront of friends that aren't Prince nuts, because they'll just laugh. Try it. I tripledog dare you.

As a collectable... is Prince still collectable? Are there people still willing to pay top dollar for items?

I agree 100%. I've seen this in used record shops for about $10 U.S., it is also on the bootleg CD "Cookie Jar" among others.

I uploaded it and many other Prince extended versions to the alt.binaries.multimedia.prince newsgroup. So download them from there if you want them for free.
