By the way, Is there anybody else, besides me, who think Vanity leaving the set of Purple Rain was a good thing? Of course it wasn't a good decision for her Career, but I think it was a better decision for the movie . I still can't imagine how it would've been had she played her original part. Is there any outtakes or something with scenes of Vanity instead of Apollonia? When I bought the DVD version of purple rain, I was hoping they have the whole nine yards, you know the making of the film, director's commentary, outtakes, original scenes with vanity playing her prt and even scenes of jam sessions during the outtakes, but when I bought it there wasn't even a wide screen version of avaible and I thought that sucked . We all should know Purple Rain basically made Prince career what it is and what it was today, but Do you think it would've been the same had it been debute with the orginal cast or do you think vanity leaving was for the better?

And How much of the film did they make before Vanity decided to walk off?

Actually, as well as the film did commercially, a lot of people can't take the movie seriously, due largely to some of the really sub-standard acting. Vanity had a lot more charisma and edge, and the dynamic between them would have made the movie better. I think Ap is a beautiful woman, but she is NOT a very good actress, as evidenced by the fact that she never did anything else. (If she'd been even a little good, the commercial success of Purple Rain would have brought in at least a few juicy offers.)
I'll put it this way...
Think of the scene where the Kid slaps the hell out of Ap...you think "what a shit!"...the dilema would have been more clear with Vanity's mischief and fire...we might have said "What a shit" with the underlying feeling that she might have driven any of us to do it. Ap's performance has no layering, and just makes him look like a mean bastard, ya know?
That's my two cents worth, at least!
